This has a been a crazy week. Monday, my DH had a scheduled colonoscopy...this was a follow up to make sure a removed polyp had not grown back...again. It had, for the third time!! so they had him come back on Tuesday for surgery to remove about 8-10" of his colon. He is doing as well as would be expected after major surgery. He will be in hospital for 5-8 days, so we are thinking maybe to come home next Monday or Tuesday.

Since he is in a hospital in another town, I haven't had much computer time after commuting there and back after work, and no 'puter while sitting in waiting rooms for a couple of days. I did take advantage of the wait time on Tuesday. Since I knew it would be a long day, I took some hand quilting with me....got most of a carpenters' wheel put together. :)

We are expecting our first frost tonight, so I have been getting the last of the above ground veggies picked. Got the last of them last night. I will go home at lunch today to pick the apples. After that, only root veggies left...and they can wait. My GF offered to come help me with that.

Oh...AND I have no heat in my house!!!! We replaced our hot water tank this summer, and have not moved the plumbing from the old tank for the under floor heat. Plus, we had the furnace set to "no heat" over the summer, and I don't know how to change that. I bought a space heater yesterday. LOL

So...I am taking advantage of a quiet moment at work to reconnect with all of you.

Hugs, my online friends.

Patti

Bless your heart. Hope DH is doing well. I can't believe you are getting frost and we are still in the mid 90's.

Welcome back. Thought and prayers for your dad.

CarrieAnne 09-17-2010 07:18 AM

Welcome back!

lisainmo 09-17-2010 07:22 AM

Bless your heart you have been one busy lady. I will pray for your DH in his recovery from his surgery. Thank god that his dr. insisted on taking care of things like he did to catch all of this at an early stage. I had a dear friend go through this..and 5 years now and all is good. Prayers and hugs sent your way!

Thanks for the "heads up" on Minnesota frost tonight....oh, for the fun of living in this state :) Best wishes to your DH...which we were closer to help you get some heat in your house. Good thing is it won't freeze that hard to hurt the pipes in your home. God Bless

I wish you father a very speedy recovery!

ruacajun2 09-17-2010 08:16 AM

Cuddle with one of those quilts that you made tonight to stay warm. I hope that your husband has a speedy recovery and that the doctors were able to fix the problem this go round - as the saying goes "three times a charm".

Hopefully things will get back to normal soon....once your DH is completely recovered. This will probably be the best thing in the long run. Hang in there, we'll be here when you get back! :D

Best wishes to you and DH.

You have a lot on your plate. It will all be fine soon. Sending hugs to get you through this time.

I'm so glad to hear from you. I'm sending thoughts and prayers up for your DH

Quiltzilla 09-17-2010 11:29 AM

I have been exactly where your DH is now. That was ten years ago and I have been free and clear ever since. Make sure they don't let him eat too soon. I was given solid food too soon after my surgery and it caused some trouble.

grammiepamie 09-17-2010 02:39 PM

Ya'll are in my thoughts. Please be careful with the space heater. I am so afraid of those. Cudddle up in a quilt!!!!!!!!!!!

jljack 09-17-2010 02:49 PM

OK, so, who is confused here??? DH = dear husband, no? Why are we wishing "dad" and "father" speedy recovery? Ladies...what kind of iced tea did we have with lunch today??? Hummmmm???? LOL LOL LOL LOL :-)

In any case, hope your DH is better really soon, that you get heat, and that your root veggies get dug before they freeze!!! You are a very industrious girl!!

You have had such a trying week -- poor thing! I'm so glad to hear that so far so good. Wish I could be there to help with your veggies. Don't overdo it. He needs you to be healthy so you can help him heal. Hugs and prayers to you and your hubby.

wvdek 09-17-2010 10:00 PM

Bless your heart. Hang in there and please be careful of the space heaters.

Thank you all for such wonderful replies. I just brought hubby home. He is doing great...all things considered!!! He will be on pain meds for a few more days yet, and has to take it easy for a while. He will take this next week off work, and then "maybe" go in for 1/2 days the next week. The pathology results came back negative, so now we can finally stop worrying!

He had an envelope arrive by "snail mail" while he was in hospital. Since his coworkers had been planning something for his birthday, and he fooled them all by having surgery on his b'day, we expected it would be a b'day card. Nope. It was a hand written get-well note from the chancellor of the university that he works at!!! We were both very impressed!!

We are very fortunate to have good friends offer to help when it comes time to dig up the root veggies. There is not as much to harvest this year as most years as it was too wet in the spring to get a lot planted. Seems Someone had a plan all along. :)

Patti: I am so glad he is home, that will make it a little easier on you. Tell your DH that is not a way to spend his BD lol...I am glad all turned out ok for you, keep us updated!! Sending prayers and hugs your way!

Pzazz 09-18-2010 03:24 PM

lisainmo....as soon as the doc told him to come back the next day after his colonoscopy for surgery, the b'day celebrations got moved ahead.

wvdek & grammiepamie...Yes, I am super careful with space heaters. Unplugged before bed, and when I am not home. Winter isn't here yet, so a wee bit of heat, and warm quilt, and I am good. :D This is the time of year that I enjoy doing hand quilting....nice warmth over my lap.
