January 2013 Weight Loss Adventure with a prize.

On January 1st weigh yourself and write it down. Do NOT send it to me. On January 31st weigh yourself again and PM me with your loss. This is weight lost not % lost. I will announce the winner February 3rd.

PM me for address. FQ’s need to be received no later than the 15th of month.

You cannot win 2 months in a row.

Chit chat is allowed, as well as WAYWO, (what are we working on). Please stay positive and uplifting as that is what keeps us on track. Come to this thread for tips, recipes, encouragement and {{{{HUGS}}}}}}

The prize is a themed FQ. At the end of the month, I will mail all the FQ’s received to the winner by the 5th of the month. I will contact the winner and announce the winner with the number of FQ’s they will receive.

January brings us into the New Year, many of us have been dealing with lots of white….as in the snow. Our theme of the month will be neutrals. Please send quality what you would want to receive. As always if you cannot send the theme fabric please send what you have. If you don't have a FQ, send a linear 1/4 yard. If you have signed up to be in the competition, please send the FQ to hostess by the 10th of the month. The winner has worked hard for this reward.

Eat healthy, exercise, try and lose weight but most of all have fun!!!!!!!!!!!

Sign up deadline to be included in the Prize Adventure is January 4th at 9 p.m. CST, with your FQ received by the 15th of month. You can always contribute to the thread, but it is only fair to have a cutoff for those trying to win.

TO PARTICIPATE, JUST SIGN IN HERE ON THIS THREAD BEFORE JANUARY 4TH. THERE IS NO NEED TO PM FOR PARTICIPATION, JUST YOUR ENDING WEIGHT LOSS FOR THE MONTH.

You must sign into the thread at least weekly to be eligible for the winning "skinny quarters" or to be declared "best loser for the month."

I am going to try this. I love FQ's so this might be an incentive.

Shadowirish 12-31-2012 07:28 AM

I'm in again. Dec wasn't great for losing but hey I did lose and that's a good thing!

Vanogay 12-31-2012 07:38 AM

I'm in for January. Only lost 2 pounds during the holidays, but gained back one, so a total of one lost. guess that's good (I keep remembering how much that is in butter - 1# of butter lost - or lard, perhaps) Anyway, a loss is a loss. I have right at 25# left to go, so it's getting harder and harder. I need the incentive. FQ will be in Wednesday's mail.

Welcome Lisa, this is a fun group. Feel free to share what you are working on or anything you wish to share.

meanmom 12-31-2012 09:34 AM

I'm in again. I guess I need to face the scale to weigh in now. My GS is here and he is a grazer..... he is killing my weight loss. My DD is also here and is pregnant. SHe eats non stop too. Her DH is skin and bones and eats whatever isn't moving. They have been here for 2 weeks. While I love them and the visit they are NOT good to have around for weight loss. SIL was hungry last night and left to get more beer he came home with pizza and ice cream.

Vanogay 12-31-2012 10:11 AM

Meanmom, HOpefully, it was right around dinner time and you could have a piece of pizze for dinner - and the ice cream was a flavor you don't particularly like, so can pass on that?????

Pam H 12-31-2012 11:21 AM

I'm in for January.
Meanmom, I know what you mean. House guests and one of them pregnant. I am amazed at how much food my daughter eats!

Painiacs 12-31-2012 11:48 AM

Ok imin! My first! Hard to lose wt as im on steroids but sounds fun!!:-)

Tothill 12-31-2012 11:57 AM

Oh, can a Canadian join in?

DH and I both need incentive to lose weight. Dh doctor told him to lose 60 pounds in 2013. Dr. wants him to lose 5 pounds per month. I need to lose at least 60 pounds realistically I should lose 80 pounds. Baby steps, if I can manage 5 pounds per month I will be a happy camper.

I will weigh in on January 2nd, as I will be back at work where we have a medical scale. The one at home is not at all accurate. If you get on and off it the weight varies by up to 7 pounds.

createfourpaws 12-31-2012 12:01 PM

This is open to anyone no matter where you are. Please feel free to join us, send me a PM for mailing address if you decide you want to join. We have lots of fun and encouragment is always needed and welcome from those who chose to join.

There have been request in the past to know what the FQ themes are for 3 months at a time. For those who wish to send 3 months at a time, here is the list through March

January Neutrals
February: turquoise/shades of blues/greens
March: Pinks/Coral as in the colors of the sunset.

I cant wait to see what comes in from everyone.

Tothill 12-31-2012 06:19 PM

Hi Cindy,

I have sent you a PM to join in.

My LQS has a big sale on FQ this weekend.

Pam H 12-31-2012 06:46 PM

Hmmm......I want to win both Feb and March because those colors sound so awesome. Too bad you can't win 2 months in a row. :D

Airwick156 12-31-2012 07:51 PM

Okay I am in too.. There Patti. :))) I'm joining you. This will be my first time too and Painiacs and I are going to do this together.

createfourpaws 12-31-2012 07:58 PM

Welcome to the new ones joining us. Here is a place for encouragement, venting and anything else you need to do or share. We are not a judgemental group. We all have to start somewhere. I know a year ago I was up to 250 and today I am down to 184. The weight didnt happen over night and it wont go away overnight. I lose 1 lb at a time.

So Welcome to:
Painiacs
Tothill
Airwick156
Lstew2212

I am still looking for some of our long running member to join in. I may need to send some private messages to encourage those who have dropped out.

Good luck everyone.

irishrose 12-31-2012 08:25 PM

In an hour and 40 minutes, a new year begins - a time for new beginnings. I'm in for another month - well, more than that. Coral in March is a real hook for me, though aqua in February is a favorite, too.

Happy New year to all willing to try this adventure, both newcomers and returnees. One day at a time, one pound at a time we can this together.

meanmom 01-01-2013 05:03 AM

Ok I love coral and turquoise. Somehow i will have to cheat so I can win both. I know I can't win 2 months in a row. I had better get back on the good food train. Sending the last of the junk food home with DD today. I think I get the award for last month for most junk food consumed in 2 weeks.
Happy New year to everyone. Time for a new beginning.

Vanogay 01-01-2013 05:57 AM

Taboo Tuesday - give up your old ways and create a new habit starting today. It can be anything, doesn't have to be specifically something to do with eating - although that's what we, on this thread look at. some ideas: How about switch to a diet soda vs full sugared one or sit down to eat your meal vs standing up or eat in the kitchen vs in front of the tv; drive within the speed limit vs over it...see what I mean - create a new habit starting today. Good eating everyone.

I love the idea of creating something new, a new habit.............they say you have to work at it for about 17 days for it to stick as a habit. I am looking forward creating my new habit. I have a lead foot, so mine will be driving the speed limit.

blondeslave 01-01-2013 08:33 AM

Thanks for the reminder Cindy. Sign me up. Skipping December entirely was enough of a break-have to start again sometime. Might as well be now...

Welcome back, I am sending many of our missing members from months back to see if we can help each other kick start the new year.

I am going to be looking for ways to help encourage, it may be in small ways like a quote of the day or anything that could help each one of us in the right direction with our weight loss.

Well i need to stay offline for a few hours, have a quilt that i must go quilt and get the binding done,.....has to be delivered on wednesday after work.

Check in later.

I'm in to be thin and healthy. How Do I find where to send Fat quarter?

irishrose 01-01-2013 08:57 AM

Okay, my new habit will be a tough one for me. I will read a magazine through and pass it on. I will not add it to my paper clutter. My cluttered bedroom leads to a body cluttered with fat. Getting rid of the current problem is a separate issue. BTW, I have a lead foot, too. I have learned to drive no more than 5 or 6 mph over the speed limit and for now I can live with that. A ticket for 10 over would be too many yards of fabric.

I haven't made my New Year's resolutions yet, but I know what's on top of the list, and unlike most Americans, it's not to lose weight. I will think of them while I sew today and print them out this evening.

What to eat today? I am eating from my freezers now. Not because of a monetary issue, but because they are cluttered, too. It's too late to thaw pork for a favored crockpot dish, so I'm thinking chicken. The chicken, rice and black beans mixture I found in the freezer yesterday was delicious. I'll have to remember what I used for seasoning - low sodium taco, I would guess.

No diet soda here. If I were to drink anything like that, I'd have a smaller amount of sugared rather than diet. For me it's a non issue as I can't have Nutrasweet, but for others, I'd look into the research that says diet soda upsets your insulin levels and makes you hungier. The sweet taste triggers a release of insulin to deal with the sugar that's coming. The sugar doesn't come so the insulin wrecks havoc on your body rather than digesting sugar. Interesting concept for soda drinkers to consider. I don't drink any (almost) because of osteoporosis, which is now better and I want it stay that way. I had half a Coke on Christmas. Several of my children were shocked as they haven't seen that since 1994.

Off to take a bath, quilt and clean my computer desk. That's enough for today. A Health magazine came in the mail - I don't subscribe - so I need to finish it and pass it on. Lots of good information in there. I will weigh myself after my bath and write it on the calendar (small). I will also write a big, colorful, projected weight loss number. I'll decide what that will be after I see my current weight.

I am losing weight and getting healthier.
Judy

I'm in for January.

Carol34446 01-01-2013 03:10 PM

I am in as I need to loose more. Lost 65 but more to go and maybe this will help. Will weigh tomorrow. ON predisone for arthritis so that makes it harder.

conniemaried 01-01-2013 09:47 PM

Count me in. I could sure use those neutral FQ's.

Daisy Dew 01-02-2013 05:14 AM

Sounds like a great deal! Been on this weight reduction since 10-10-12 doing well (-27) but the boredom sets in so this is a good motivator and the best thing is spending time with quilting buddies. What's not to like! I'm in. Linda B NE Florida

createfourpaws 01-02-2013 05:15 AM

Welcome to our new comers and good luck. If you like you can share a little about yourself or what you are working on.

In the thread is the themes for the first quarter if you want to commit to 3 months you can send in all months for the weight loss. Also please include your screen name.

I'm in! As Tothill said, I have to lose 50-60 pounds and want to do it with some support that doesn't cost money such as Weight Watchers. We all know how to eat healthy and with a little will power and support, it will happen. Thank you for organizing this group.

FancyNancy 01-02-2013 06:16 AM

Where do you send the FQ's?

Pam H 01-02-2013 06:59 AM

Is anyone watching the Today Show this morning? They showed a new diet book (The 8-Hour Diet) where you only eat 8 hours of the day, say 10-6 or 11-7. You can pretty much eat as much of whatever you want but you are supposed to include the super 8 power foods. They say you can see big improvements just doing this 3 times a week. The 16 hours of fasting are supposed to shrink your stomach. Also you are supposed to do some exercise right away in the morning to get your metabolism going. Sounds interesting but I'm afraid I would get migraines from going that long without eating.
I had a big scare yesterday with my son having a low sugar episode. Luckily his girlfriend was with him. I think we might have lost him if not for her. She was sending me messages via facebook asking what to do and I didn't see them until a few hours later. Poor girl. I will be sending her a package with all kinds of things to have on hand. Hopefully I can figure out how to get a glucagon kit. She learned she needs to keep orange juice and other sugary things on hand at all times.
I'm off to spend some quality time with my treadmill.

I am in for the next couple of months!!! Need to lose lots more!!!

ljs317 01-02-2013 10:41 AM

Ok I am in again! I have been away from this weight loss thread for wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to long. I need to loose about 100 lbs. So I will be in for the next three months at least.
lisa

irishrose 01-02-2013 11:43 AM

I weighed myself and I have 4.5 Christmas pounds plus the two I always want to lose, so my goal for January should be 6.5 pounds. I'll settle for three, so that's what I'm putting on January 31th in a big orange number. I encourage you all to set a realistic goal and post where you can see it regularly. No one will know what it is unlike posting your weight.

Remember weight control starts in the grocery store and any other place food is sold. If you don't bring IT home, then it won't be there when the munchies hit, but the healthy snack you purchased will be. What's your favorite healthy snack? I just bought some cashew butter so I wonder how it will taste on celery. Cashew butter a healthy snack??? Some fat in your snack is more satisfying than fat free. It's the portion control where some of us lose it - me, number 1 in that category.

Welcome back, Lisa, and welcome to all newcomers and other returnees.

I am losing weight and getting healthier.
Judy

squires1042 01-02-2013 12:00 PM

What the heck may as well give it a try. Sign me up, I need to lose about 80 lbs, but a couple a month would be good for me. Now I have to dig out that yoga dvd and actually get into doing it. I am guessing that it is one fat quarter a month to participate. Looking forward to getting the pm with info.
