Hearing why I didn't get an interview for a job I'd applied for at the place I work at now got me kind of down this morning.

Anyone know of a full time job in central Iowa?

Ducky 05-21-2009 06:59 AM

So sorry to hear about your job....and I'm sending positive energy your way with affirmations that you will find something quickly. My hours were just cut at my job, which is going to really hurt, but at least I still have somewhat of a paycheck. All the best to you.

Kj05 05-21-2009 07:17 AM

That is the good side, at least I still have a paycheck.

sewjoyce 05-21-2009 07:35 AM

Why didn't you get the interview???

And -- only one more work day before a 3-day weekend

After getting through the first round, they made everyone fill out a questionaire. I thought short and to the point for my answers to their questions would be good. But I guess I would've been better off if I had added some fluff to it.

sewjoyce 05-21-2009 07:48 AM

Well, I always thought that short and to the point was the best way. Fluff is for school reports where they count words....

Maybe you're better off not getting that job anyway!

Kj05 05-21-2009 07:50 AM

That's what I keep telling myself.

It really depends on who is reading the answers. It pays to know all you can about that person. I worked at a Fourtune 500 company for years in corporate.
The higher ups are not into common sense, a good snow job wins every time. Flattery and always being helpful and available with a smile got many promoted over the better qualified. I had to bite my tongue many times in seeing some nitwit getting promoted over the person that was truly the better employee.

What kind of questions?

littlehud 05-21-2009 09:48 PM

Maybe it was not meant to be. I'm sure there is a reason. About a year ago I wanted to apply for a management job where I work . It didn't work out and four months ago they laid off all but the top two of our managers. It turned out to be a good thing I didn't get that job. May be the same for you.

Kj05 05-22-2009 11:19 AM

I did it, I took a quilt with me today. Fortunately most of the guys took today off so I didn't get made fun of! And I was warm, for the most part. :D

Shemjo 05-22-2009 01:56 PM

Sending positive energy that you get what you need.
I work part time at my church, and my hours were cut! gives me more time to quilt!

Those "tests" bite me in the butt every time. I have NEVER gotten a job after taking one, because they are geared to finding sheep who will never have an original thought in their heads. Then, they get all agitated and spend money telling the sheep to "think outside the box" when they were hired because they DON'T!!!

I started another job this month for less pay than I made 20 years ago. I am grateful to have it, and I know that after 2 years of searching, it is not a perfect job, but it is good enough for now. Every job opening has hundreds of applicants in this area, and employers can be as choosey as they want to be.

Say, wish me luck on Tuesday. I got called back for a second interview for a part-time position. My Census job ran dry and I haven't worked but 6 hours this whole week!!! Looks like beans and rice for me!! lol

Kj05 06-03-2009 01:00 PM

I have an interview on Friday!

henryparrish76 06-03-2009 01:02 PM

Sending good thoughts your way. I am also still looking for a full time job. I have a part time job where I am working like 4 to 6 hrs a week.

Thanks! I hope you can find find something!

henryparrish76 06-03-2009 01:06 PM

Thanks.

What is the interview on Friday for?

Kj05 06-03-2009 01:08 PM

It's essentially a mapping position using CAD, microstation, and GIS.

henryparrish76 06-03-2009 01:12 PM

Cool

What GIS software did you use? Some of it does suck but some doesn't.

Shemjo 06-03-2009 01:29 PM

Good luck, but I haven't a clue what you are referring to!

Kj05 06-05-2009 04:12 AM

My interview is in 50 minutes, everyone please cross your fingers for me!

sewjoyce 06-05-2009 04:36 AM

GOOD LUCK :!: (Everything but my eyes are crossed for you!)

dvseals 06-05-2009 04:53 AM

Good Luck Kj :)

henryparrish76 06-05-2009 05:22 AM

GOOD LUCK

Kj05 06-05-2009 06:05 AM

CONGRATULATIONS, Moonpi, I know that you had been looking for a job for a long time. Maybe this one will lead to another one (with more $)

Best of luck with the interview, Kjo5!

ai731 06-05-2009 06:59 AM

Hope you get the job! Sending positive thoughts!

I just got a new contract today (I'm a writer) so I'm employed again for the next month. Hubby (also a writer) makes good money, but his contract ends in September, and he might go to half hours then, so every little bit helps!

littlehud 06-05-2009 08:43 PM

Best of luck. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way.

Kj05 06-09-2009 11:08 AM

I'm fairly confident I'm not going to get an offer for the job I interviewed for on Friday. :( Now I'm trying to decide to summit my resume for a job that would pay just over half as much as I make now and would only be for 3 months but is more in the area I want to work in.

amma 06-09-2009 11:30 AM

Is there any possibility at all that the job may stretch out longer or become permanent? Or lead to another position in the company? I can only imagine how frustrating this must be...

There might be the possiblity that it could lead to another position, but it's actually an internship that's set at 450 hours.

Kj05 06-22-2009 08:39 AM

So I got the internship! I start Friday! And the best part is I'll be able to come back to the job I have now.

Ninnie 06-22-2009 08:48 AM

Yea!! KJ, that is wonderful!!! Congratulations!

How did you do on your second interview, Dorothy? Hope all went well.

CONGRATULATIONS, Kj05! I was so glad for you when I read that you got the internship. WooHoo.

littlehud 06-22-2009 09:18 AM

Good for you. I'm doing the happy dance for you.
