:-D
We picked up our foreign exchange student last night. He seems very sweet, and he is almost as tall as my son (who is six feet tall!) We like just outside of Indy. he missed his flight from New jersey to here, and there were no more flights left, SO we ended up driving to Chicago at the last minute to pick him up. His flight did not get in until late so we did not get home last night until around 2:00 a.m.!
The airport in New Jersey said if we did not go to get him in Chicago, he would be "on his own" in that airport overnight. Can you imagine leaving a 16 year-old foreign kid in that situation? I just about passed out when i heard that!! Poor kid. I think he will love it here, though.

Wow good for you. I'm sure all the driving is worth it.
Where is he from? I've thougth about taking in a foreign exchange student here. I have 2 spare bedrooms and thought it would be fun. How do you get into doing something like that? :-D Would love to see pictures of him and your kids.

He is from Rheine, Germany. we learned about this because my son attended a meeting about it at school, and he came home and asked us about it. the staff has been very helpful and profressional so far. They do a lot of screening on both sides, and the students have to pass an English test, and get lots of references.

If you go online, I think you will be able to fins the agency. It is called International . If you have two rooms, maybe you can host more than one student so that they can keep each other company!

Hi, TD, glad he's "home" safely! Sounds like a big (and long) day for all of you. I know you'll have an exciting and yes, sometimes challenging, year! Blessings to all of you...remember smiles go miles! {hugs are great, too.} :)

Glad you got him home safely! It amazes me sometimes what the kids have to go through to get here - most of the time it is their first time traveling overseas! Tell him hello from a former "host mom" of 4 students (3 from Germany)! And welcome to America!!! Please feel free to PM me if you ever have any questions.

Glad he made it safe, TD! If that's the worst that happens during his stay here, you're home free! =) Have fun, and you'll do fine.
