I want to make a purse but need a suggestion as to what to add to the bottom of it to keep it firm. I don't want to use cardboard as the pattern suggested. I was thinking of something that would be able to go through the wash? Any suggestions? Skip it maybe?
Thanks!

I used pieces of plastic cut from For Sale signs (we had some on hand.) I cut it to size and then make a slipcover for it. When I want to wash the bag, it is easy to take out and put back when the bag is dry.

I used plexi glass from the hardware store. I cut it to the bottom size of the purse. I bound the edges with electrical tape, and slipped them in a pocket in the purse bottom. They could be removed when the purse needed to be washed.
But if you want something permanent maybe some type of plastic webbing?

I cover plastic canvas with matching fabric.

My father cuts thin wood, then we cover it with matching fabric. Stays firm.

An old rotary cutting mat (cut to size and covered) works great!

I like this idea, it is even washable. :-)
