There was a little (tiny) old lady in a wheelchair in the hall in the nursing home where my Mom was dying. I didn't think she could hear or speak.

My BIL - who at the time could be a first-class ____ at times, took time to talk with her - turned out she had been a dairy-farmer's wife - and she was so grateful that someone took time to talk to her.

This BIL - a strange mix of brilliance, compassion, thoughtlessness, shyness, arrogance, talent.

He even had compassion for the "challenging" roommate Mom had.

OK, that confirms it -- men are just weird! (and wonderful)

It is amazing when someone steps out of character and does something so humane. I hope someone will remember me doing something sew nice.

Thanks for bring this kindness to my attention so I might remember to do nice things when no one seems to be looking.

I think we all have compassion in our hearts at times. What a neat story!

All it takes is a few seconds to give someone a little attention or a few moments of your time and it can make a huge difference to them. Sometimes we need to slow down and give others a little bit of ourselves.

When my MIL was in the nursing home,
we saw so many prople who never had
company. We always tried to talk to a
different person each time we went to
visit Mom. They appreciate being thought
of so much. I love seeing the joy in their
eyes when chatting with them.

My Gramma was in a nursing home. She used a walker. I told her I was going to put racing stripes on it and she laughed! She died 2 years later at 104 in Minneapolis. What a gal she was.

It's Father's Day, and I love my dad, but I sure do miss my grandma, too!

Good for him...Nursing homes to me are one of the saddest places...made even more so because they don't have to be!!! I hate seeing all those wonderful people who have so much to share just sitting and reallywaiting...waiting....they have no one to come visit them and no one really takes the time to listen towhat they have to say. But...if you take a moment, you will find that they are really interesting and funny!
