My aunt started having a family gathering for all the kin on her mother's side in late October or early November.

It's really nice - it's pot-luck - no gifts are exchanged - just a chance to say hello, how are you - it's not a wedding or a funeral -

What a great idea!!! Holiday meals are to chaotic to usually get much chance to chit chat with everyone...the only other times it seems we get together is for funerals... I love the idea of a potluck and visiting!!! :D :D :D

Everyone does their "usual" with their immediate family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but this is a chance for the cousins and their spouses to mingle for a few hours.

The grown sons, DILs, and grandchildren are all doing something else today, and we did a low key turkey, dressing, and sweet potato meal. No mashed potatoes, no broccoli, no salad. It was wonderful.

I did make two pies.

Our big dinner was on Sunday so today was just a wonderful family day.

I just got home from My family get together. There was about 60 of us. We try to do this at least twice a year, and it is always pot luck. It's not about the food, it's about staying in touch with family. My kids grew up knowing all their Great Aunts and Great Uncles, as well as 2nd and 3rd cousins. There was even 1 Great , great aunt there!

I think that sounds wonderful.
