dakotamaid 12-30-2012 09:08 AM

There is one in every crowd!!!!

nygal 12-30-2012 09:13 AM

Wow...it sure wasn't me!!

alikat110 12-30-2012 09:24 AM

Wow....with the generosity of quilters, you'd think she had a better way of obtaining fabrics....

IrishNY 12-30-2012 10:16 AM

Sad. I visit Quilting Adventures every time I get to Richmond - great store. I am sorry to see something like this happen there.

chips88 12-30-2012 10:33 AM

that is why fabric prices are so high.she did not look to be 50.it hard to really see.she must of had plans for the fabric and didnt have the money but wanted the fabric.

Tink's Mom 12-30-2012 11:16 AM

How awful!

No one need fabric bad enough to steal...

Joset 12-30-2012 12:57 PM

wow cant believe that, i guess it takes all kinds

Jingle 12-30-2012 06:53 PM

First time I have heard of this. In thieves minds, stealing beats the heck out working in order to buy what they want.

auntpiggylpn 12-30-2012 07:14 PM

I guess I have never thought about stealing from a fabric store or any store for that matter. I wouldn't dream of taking anything from my LQS as it is my little piece of Heaven! But people who will steal will still anything. My other half works in management 3rd shift at a large box store (not Walmart) and deals with at least 1 shoplifter every night.

cherrio 12-31-2012 05:59 AM

my brother in law manages a grocery store and sees theft daily. understandable in some cases but wrong none the less. But fabric?! c'mon lady!

meanmom 12-31-2012 06:40 AM

Several years ago there was a small crafty, fabric store. Near here. They closed because of so much theft. The teens etc from the neighborhood would come in and steal stuff just to be stealing. They didn't even need or want it. The store tried everything to stop it. One night they cut a hole in the roof and trashed the place. They shut down and moved to Florida. It is a shame what people will do.

caspharm 12-31-2012 08:00 AM

It is a shame, especially since some of the thieves think they aren't hurting anyone but the store. They don't realize that the store then increases everything else to make up the profit lost. Others just think they're entitled.

DeAnne-Mn. 12-31-2012 09:27 AM

Unbelievable! If she needed it that bad why not work out payment with store! Hope it was for a good cause and not just the sick thrill of stealing. Have never understood people that steal from others.

ploverwi2 12-31-2012 09:41 AM

No way is she in her fifties. I would say about 70. What a shame. No doubt someone who knows her will see this picture of her eventually

She could stand out side with a can for spare change and get enough money to purchase it.. I could never enjoy any thing made from some thing stolen.

deenatoo 12-31-2012 11:37 AM

I work right near Quilting Adventures and everyone in the shop is very nice. I hate to see this happen to them....or any store for that matter.

topstitch 12-31-2012 12:04 PM

I live close to Richmond and Henrico Va. Nothing is safe there. All the quilters I know are so generous with their time and talent that I can't imagine any of them doing such a thing. Yet I had a vendor tell me that she had items stolen at the Hampton, Va. quilt show. So I guess this was not even an isolated incident

fayeberry 12-31-2012 12:07 PM

At least the store camera got a good picture of her. Hope they put it on the news and someone recognizes her and turns her in. If not she will do it again.

topstitch 12-31-2012 12:08 PM

teen stealing

I just heard a teenager on t.v. news who was trying to explain away the fact that he had been caught stealing. He said that stealing is a way of life to many of todays youth and is done for excitement more so than profit.

Quilt Novice 12-31-2012 12:30 PM

I cant believe it. This is one of the stores I shop at!

Digitizingqueen 12-31-2012 04:12 PM

I wouldn't have believed people stealing craft/ fabric supplies until I started working retail in one it amazes me what people will steal....

zipit 12-31-2012 05:25 PM

I was amazed when my LQS told me that she's found several empty bolts in the ladies room. I would never that thought theft would be a problem.

Debbie C 12-31-2012 05:30 PM

It's just a sad state of affairs when an older woman feels she must steal her fabric - I find myself wondering what her personal story is. I mean, does she need the fabric THAT BADLY? Poor soul!

You know someone will recognize her, tell the authorities and her life will be ruined....and all for a bit of fabric....truly sad.

patchsamkim 12-31-2012 07:41 PM

It happens...it happened at our quilt shop...not just fabric, but other items too...even quilt samples....we ended up nailing things to the walls...attaching jingle bells...still even had some taken after that...no shame. Also at a quilt show, many vendors had items stolen. She got caught...and we did find out who she was...and when she did come to our shop...we followed her just a few steps behind. We had others we were suspicious of and also followed them. I find it hard to believe that quilters can steal, but we found out otherwise. Sad that people do. Hope this person gets caught.

Caswews 01-01-2013 06:07 AM

It for sure wasn't me !! at 12:45 on Dec 22nd I was with the DH LOL .. WOW takes all kinds to make the world go round for sure !

Stitchnripper 01-01-2013 08:31 AM

Sad story. I was in one of the Hancock's in Atlanta recently and asked where the rotary blades were. Behind the counter because the lady said they get stolen - a lot!!!!

quiltmau 01-01-2013 09:25 AM

so sad-if she needed the fabric so badly she could have asked for help from the store or from this board.

Nonna Judi 01-01-2013 12:26 PM

Shame on her!!!!!! Quilters have such lovely and generous hearts (at least in my experience) and people like her give us a bad name!

3TreeFrog 01-01-2013 01:28 PM

Hello everyone

You know I almost want to say that I feel sorry for her. I mean, and addiction at this level is NOT healthy whatever the addiction is! Having said that, I hope that they find the woman (she's no lady) and prosecute her to the full extent of the law!

It would surprise you how much of the price you pay for every item you purchase in any retail store is because of theft. The honest customers pay for the theft, it is built into the price. So much stuff ends up at flea markets, ebay and little corner markets. I worked at a grocery for 16 years and it would surprise you what gets stolen and how much. So if you feel sorry for someone caught stealing remember you are paying for that theft with every item you purchase.

AuntieD 01-01-2013 02:49 PM

The ladies from thecross stitch shop I visited in Catonville, MD told me people stole their samples off the wall. It is just sad that people feel it is ok to steal.

skothing 01-02-2013 03:40 AM

In our area we are having trouble with the same thing. The shops have to nail everything down. And a clerk has to fallow you around the store. I love the company so I talk to the girls. But if I ever saw anything I would sing like a bird as loud as I could. One crazy shopper cut the fabric right off the bolt! These are thieves not quilters or woman. Trash not fit to be around humans. Thinking about it don't want them around my dog either.

amandasgramma 01-02-2013 08:13 AM

If she belongs to any quilt guild, she'll be caught..........LOL Shameful of her!!! And as someone says, NO one needs fabric that much!

tenngal 01-02-2013 01:36 PM

Wow! I never thought about there being fabric thieves out there. Just when you think you've heard it all .........
