Oh I would like to know how that all works too. We bought one and have not tried it yet. My land line is also my ISP at the moment. Crazy!

We've got a Magic Jack, and have had it for a year. We just renewed our year subscription.

Honestly, it's great for our situation. It's incredibly cheap, and with my family living two states away the unlimited long distance is very good!

There are a few downsides. One, you have to have your phone connected to a computer which has to be on and connected to the internet for the phone to work. This means if your internet or power goes out, you have no landline. Still, we have a cellphone, so that doesn't usually hurt us too much.

If you have an unstable internet connection or are not comfortable with leaving your PC on all day, Magic Jack may not be for you - but we have had no problems with it.

We use ours to call family out of state. Works great for us. We do have DSL which helps it to work better. I have not had any problems with it.

I had it and hated it. Everytime someone called ME they were charged a long distance rate.

I wouldn't be without mine. I normally don't keep a phone connected to it and rely on the emails to notify me when I have a message or a missed call.

I have a land line that isn't used much and I'm going to port it over as soon as that option is available.

We have had one for 3+ years. The first year, lots of problems. Now great. We use our cell for incoming calls & we just call folks back on our MJ to avoid using all our cell minutes. Wouldn't be without it as we no longer have a landline.

I had magicjack until I changed from Windows XP to Linux. It will not work with Linux. I had a year plan. If they ever get it working with Linux, I will install it again. Most people called us on the other phone and we used this to call long distance as it was so reasonable.

I have had my magic jack for over a year now. I use it to call my mom...she lives in Canada, so I use the call forwarding feature and just leave her number logged in. then I call my magic jack number (you set up a local number) and I can yak at my mom for free...works great.
My daughter who lives in canada has her magic jack phone number as a local number here where we live in california and when we call that number it is also free .
