My mom use to say"that doesn't sound like my Carol" whenever I got a little angry ,loud, whiney, or smart. I told mine, "just you wait!"

...A job worth doing is worth doing well. My favorite sewing one was when she was getting low on thread she'd say to me, "oh, I have to sew real fast so I finish before I run out of thread." And I never remember her being short, would have about 1 or 2 feet of thread left; always amazed me. Now my grandkids think that is so funny when I say it to them.

not sure why I would lick a calf once, much less twice..

My dad told me to always measure twice and cut once. It's paid off lots of times for quilting and sewing. :)

A lazy donkey will load so much on his back in one trip he'll drop dead from the weight. (It doesn't translate better from German)

Mum used to say "a blind man would be pleased to see it" when something didn't turn out quite right

Mine was: 'Because I said so!' I was the one that wanted the REASON she 'said so!', but she never would tell me.... so I'd find out for myself. Sure wish she would have saved me some grief!

My mom would say, "You made your bed, now sleep in it."

My Dad used to say...Believe half of what you see & none of what you hear!

I gotta think of what Mom used to say...

My mom would say either "What goes around, comes around" or "Everyone gets theirs in the end". The lesson was to not get upset over something someone has done to you, their punishment is not in your control. The advice has made me a very forgiving woman and saved me a lot of aggravation over the years, one less thing I need to worry about taking care of!! I lost her 23 years ago, but thanks Ma, you were right!!

Oh, my father in law used to say "People in Hell want ice water" whenever someone wanted something out of the question or outrageous, I still say it to my kids!! And my dad said "anything worth doing is worth doing right"

This is a good thread, seems there were many sayings my folks used!
