It's common knowledge that fabric-softener dryer sheets can be used to eliminate static cling and soften clothes, but that's just the beginning of their usefulness. Dryer sheets have been my mom's go-to tool for cleaning all around the house. Just check out some of her favorite ways to clean with them:

Wash Dishes: To loosen baked-on food from dishes, simply place a dryer sheet onto the dish, fill with cold water, and let it soak over night. The fabric softener in the dryer sheet will break down the food particles, making the dish much easier to clean in the morning.

Mosquito Repellent: Just stick a dryer sheet in each pocket or tie it to a belt loop. My family grew up camping, and using dryer sheets is a lot more cost effective than any bug spray or citronella candle. Plus, they have a pleasant scent.

Deoderizer: Banish stinky odors by tucking dryer sheets into sneakers, slippers, luggage, camping gear, sports equipment, basements, attics, and garages.

Soap Scum Buster: Clean glass shower doors by scrubbing them with damp dryer sheets.

Duster: Wipe static from your television and computer screen, as well as dust blinds.

Needless to say, I now keep a box of dryer sheets in my laundry, and one under my sink.

I occasionally will run one through my hair to remove static. I'm growing my hair out for Locks of Love and when it's dry outside it's crazy. It's about to the belt (waste) but when it's full of static it crosses all over my face. Yuk! (It's almost ready to cut).

We also place them over the heat vents in winter, so when the heat comes on it blows a good smell throughout the room!

Works nicely against mosquitos. I don't much mind the bites that much, but when they fly around my ears singing in high, shrill voices, then that drives me batty.

I use dryer sheets to clean the bottom of my iron.....I'll use a pot holder or piece of insulbrite, just something to protect your fingers that's heat resistant, grab a couple of dryer sheets and scrub the bottom of the iron with the dryer sheets while it is still fairly hot...Your iron will be super clean and will glide over your clothes/fabric....

If you have your own carpet shampooer, put some liquid fabric softener in the rinse water. Makes the carpet feel so soft & eliminated static electricity in the winter.

Mice don't like dryer sheets either. I stuff them in their favorite entry areas in the fall. Life in a farm house... never boring!

We've got bats....yuck....in our attic....wonder if they'd hate them too?

I keep some out in the RV when we are not using it to deter the critters. And I use them for some cleaning in the RV too.

I save the used ones and use them to make string piecing blocks.

Mosquito Repellent: I tried this last year, and still got bitten by the black flies & mosquitoes, also put dish soap out in dishes around the site, (per another tip) didn't help me, but that's great if it helped someone else.

Deoderizer: DD's wedding shoes came with a horrible glue stink.... we tried the dryer sheet... baking soda, etc.... the cure was fabreeze.
