I have a REALLY big frog that has been living in my backyard pond for the past few years. I just love this guy!

Yesterday my husband said that the big frog was sitting on the big bubbling rock in the pond so I grabbed my camera... He's still very skittish of me so I couldn't snap this picture from outside... so this is what I got through the window.

I had to share :)
The frog is almost the length of my hand from my fingertips to palm okay not my middle finger but maybe the two on either side of it lol. He's huge.

My dog thrills every night to see him outside and make him jump in the pond. The frog has even let Buster get nose to nose to him. I think that frog has a bit of daredevil in him!

My son brought my daughter some tadpoles on Friday so we put them in an aquarium. His mother-in-law found them in her swimming pool!

moonwork42029 06-19-2011 10:39 AM

He is a show off and really cool looking dude. Mother Nature has some amazing designs in her quilt.

raedar63 06-19-2011 10:51 AM

That is so cool! Great pics. The frogs in my creek always jump in before I can even see them.

ptquilts 06-19-2011 10:56 AM

NauDeeGal 06-19-2011 11:00 AM

I've always called him my Big Frog lol. I know it's sounds silly but that's what he's called... some of the fish in the pond have names but the big frog has always been called Big Frog.
Yeah, creativity at its finest.
He's pretty brazen that's for sure!

amma 06-19-2011 11:38 AM

What a perfect addition to your pond!! AND you don't even have to feed or care for him  :D:D:D

alikat110 06-19-2011 11:44 AM

If you saw my pond in person you would just shudder. It is overgrown with weeds inside and out. We are trying to figure out what to do with it. I'll be going to the pond store later on this week to get some advice...

My frog is cool. I get a kick out of him especially in the spring when he sings for about a month. I'm still surprised that any young froglets find their way in to my back yard - and then they don't even stay. I just don't get it lol.

About a week or two ago my patio had several small frogs that looked just like my big guy :D

If I'm not mistaken, the big frog is the female and the little frog is the male. Kinda remember that from biology.

So if 'she' was singing and you had several boy visitors ... you might be rewarded with tadpoles!

And the bonus is all the bugs they eat!!

Lalalala - fingers in my ears - I'm not listening - I'd have to change his name from the Big Guy to the Big Girl lol.
No matter what I love my froggie :D

CloverPatch 06-19-2011 02:02 PM

ahh, Im jealouse. We have a pond, and a big yard with lots of frogs, and though my kids keep putting them in the pond non have stayed. We had one, who swam in my pond for abouta week, then he wasn't seen again.
Think the fish ran him off!

Yarn or Fabric 06-19-2011 03:30 PM

I just read up on my guy. I don't know why it has taken me so long to do it - but he's a bullfrog and male all the way :)
The way to tell American Bullfrogs apart is the male has bigger ear circles and the female's ear circles are the same size or smaller than their eyes. Their coloration is different too - the female has a white throat.

I have no idea why it took me so many years to look up info about my guy. Better late than never.

huntannette 06-19-2011 06:29 PM

AWWWW sweet!!!

Did you know that frogs can be poison to dogs. My neighbor 's dog tried to eat one and his mouth got all foamed up and he started gagging so she rushed him to the vet. Not sure why he was so bad but I would keep him away from it. Cute frog tho. Jan

littleone 06-20-2011 08:41 AM

Neat, he almost looks like a statue. He sure is a dandy.

grannypat7925 06-20-2011 11:36 AM

I like frogs. I hate snakes, but I like frogs. In Puerto Rico they have frogs that sounds like birds. When we were leaving my DGD bought a little frog on a key chain and it made this sound like a bird. So we asked about it. They told us it was the sound the frog made. We laughed all the way to the airport. We heard the sound for several days and just thought it was the birds.......

Is it a bullfrog. Love to listen to them at night. Croaking. I had a lab that love to play with frogs. For the longest time, we would just make them jump. One day, he came up, drool was hanging from his lips. He opened his mouth and out jumped a frog. From that time forward, everytime he saw a frog, he started drooling. No more carrying frog in his mouth.
