Now this is a total shot in the dark, but - does anyone know of a charity that will accept donated beanie babies? I have a ton of them and hate to toss them out... would love to send them to some kids who would appreciate them.

most of the hospitals will take them for their peds floor. also the hiway patrol use stuff animals as comfort items. And our kindergardening class use them for prizes for kids who make their points

Our local VFW ( Veterans of Foriegn Wars Aux ) collects these. We work with the local VA Hospital making
busy bags for children as their parents/grandparents/other adults have Dr. appoints. We try to enclude a small beanie baby/stuffed toy, colors/ colorint/activity books, etc to help occupy the children during a "boring " waiting room.

Also, our VFW tries to " provide shopping" for the elderly Veterans in nursing homes that do not have the means or energy to actually shop for their grand/ or great grand children. It gives these Older citizens great pride to give their families little gifts...

I used beanie babies instead of regular bean bags in my kindergarten. As well as balance and tossing activities, the kids learned animal names and how to understand descriptive language--e.g. "Pick the beanie with the purple scales" or "Find the beanie with no legs." etc.. Perhaps some teacher would like them. (I had purchased someone's whole collection cheap. Some of the beanies were useful when re-telling stories without books. Some went as prizes. There were so many I could share with primary colleagues.)

We took some with us to the nursing home last Christmas and the people loved them.

Hmmm I have a ton of them also I'd like to get rid of. You've all given some good ideas. However, I'm not sure about the hospitals - the ones I've contacted do not want previously owned items of that type because of germs. (they can't be washed)
