So I decided to make a few sock monkeys for christmas gifts for a couple of my little cousins problem is I don't know what to do for the mouth. I tried to stitch a mouth on but I didn't like it and picked it out. Just wondering if any of you have any ideas of what kind of stitch I could use for the mouth or of an embroidery site that may be helpful. I'm so frustrated after trying a couple times and having to pick it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aren't they usually just the red from the sock? :D:D:D

I made one with a crooked half smile made of backstitches. I didn't particularly care for it but the owner did. Otherwise, a straight line or blank. Like these...

If you wanted the red what about using red felt attached with a blanket stitch

My MIL made my kids sock monkeys made from the red heeled socks (I'm looking at my son's to verify my info). The red heel forms the mouth and she drew on the lip separation. I'm sure some people have embroidered this area too. I hope this helps.

Here's where I found a book on monkeys and socks. The prices were better than any place I found locally. http://www.sockmonkey.com/Red_Heel_Socks.html

I just used a simple straight stitch in a straight line to make the mouth.

It doesn't have to be perfect. That's what makes it special. :)
