need ideas for fabric scraps
My very thoughtful son and his girlfriend have two pet ducks that they absolutely adore. A few weeks ago my son (a Navy guy) called me to say he was walking through his local Walmart and happened to spot the cutest duck printed fabric. He called to ask if I could surprise his g/f by maiking her a pair of pj's from the fabric. He bought the fabric, pattern, thread, elastic-- everything I needed to make them. (I trained him right--LOL)
Over the weekend he brought me everything. The fabric is fleece. I made the pj top, bottom, a queen sized pillow case, makeup bag and a cute night cap. It all is so adorable. I still have some scraps left over- no even squared pieces --just uneven pieces. Too much to throw away but what else can I make? I even thought of trying to cut out 2 little ducks from the fabric and stuff them....but I feel there has to be more I can make. Any ideas ???? Thanks <!-- / message --><!-- sig --> |
I made myself a couple of fleece glass cases. They were just a simple folded in half rectangle with a fancy stitch around the outside edge. They work really well for protecting my sunglasses in my purse and are soft enough to use to polish the glass when they get dusty. Fleece pieces work well for swifter cloths also. I made a couple for my DIL for picking up cat hair on the wood floors.
I've seen scarves made of squares of fleece done the rag quilt way. There is also a scarf where you overlap squares on the diagonal and machine sew down the center line. There is another where you cut them to look like a feather boa scarf. That's all I can think of right now. |
Buy more fabric in coordinating colours and make a patchwork lap quilt ... or larger!
It's hard to know what all to suggest, when we don't know how large your leftover pieces are! :) Keeping with the theme, you could make her a pair of eye covers (to block light when sleeping)!! Other ideas ... more make up bags, coin purse, slippers ..... Actually the best idea ... make something for your son, so he can enjoy it too! :) |

Try some charity projects - if you can piece together enough for borders, make some pillow cases with the scraps as the borders, or sew a bunch of the scraps together for dresses and use for the Comfort Doll project.

Maybe you could remove the rubber "thong" in flip flops and put the fleece in its place.
Perhaps a little fabric bowl? Head band/sweat band. Drawstring bag. |
A sleep mask ? I work nights and got used to sleeping with a mask and now can't do without it :)

I keep thinking of the expression "get your ducks all in a row" and wonder if you couldn't create a row of ducks and use that to trim a sweatshirt.

Or you just could send the fabric to me,I collect duck fabric also my daughter got married and her. Last name is WADDLE,and I have 2 grand ducks by her so we have a thing for ducks here too,oh just kidding bout sending fabric,I've made pillowcases,showercurtin,placemats,potholder ,quilts,bathrobes,done the flip flop,daiperbags,I can't think..of it all, love working with the fabric

what about stuffing 2 of the ducks like you said and making his and her keychains for both your son and his gf and l love the suggestion about using them as a trim on a sweatshirt also and the eye mask you ladies are all so creative
