Does anybody have a remedy for diabetic neuropathy? I use Neurontin (Gabapentin) by prescription and Neuragen and Frankincense and Myrrh (over-the-counter oils). I also soak hands and feet in very warm water. Nothing works completely.

Also, had shingles starting June 2010, and they never went away - still sensitive/itching but not much pain. Docs don't seems to have any remedy except Neurontin, which I'm already taking.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I have it in the top of both feet and for awhile I coudn't even wear shoes. I took a NSAID and a diuretic (water pill) and it went away. The only time I have pain now is if I let my feet get swollen. I don't take any meds at this time, I just avoid wearing anything tight on my feet or standing/walking for too long. This probably will not help you since you are under a doctor's care but I wanted to let you know that you are not alone.
I hope you find relief soon!

I, too, suffer mild neuropathy. I find all root vegetables cause my feet and hands to have pain - like it does gout. So I avoid potatos, peanuts, carrots and rice. More but can't think of it right now. But, the death of a nerve starts at the tip ends. Guess you really can't stop it, just control the pain. Just don't stop moving, they'll either paint you or bury you !

Blessings, Ruth

Thanks. I take 4 water pills daily, and wear support stockings. My fingers really bother me more than my feet. It's hard to do any hand work. I have to pick and choose my days for that.

Thanks, Ruth. I will avoid those foods and see if it helps.

All suggestions appreciated.

Lyrica

Lidoderm patches. They are actually approved for shingle pain however my pain management doctor prescribed them for my nerve pain. You put it on in the area of pain and leave it there for 12 hrs, then off for 12. You can use up to 2 at a time. No side effects (for me) and work more than any pain pills, etc.

I also take lyrica (which is similar to neurontin) you might want to discuss the pain and sometimes switching meds can help.

And I'm sorry you're experiencing this. Nerve pain is a bugger! People who don't experience this pain don't realize how it can easily drive you insane. *hugs*

Had a similar situation last year and my doctor also told me to take sublingual B12 (has to be sublingual) and after a month or so, the nerve pain went away. Still have a tingly feeling but much better than that pain! You might talk to your doctor about adding the B12 and how much because apparently too much is not good for you either!

Pain doc told me the same thing when my shingle pain didn't go away. It still bothers me when I'm fatigued or stressed and it's been 13 years. I guess damaged nerves just do not repair.
