"The Adventure of English" by Melvyn Bragg is about the history of the English language. Quite enlightening and interesting, I enjoyed it thoroughly. As a bonus, I didn't "read" it - I listened to the audio version so I got to HEAR the different pronunciations. It was also made into a TV series for BBC.

Unbroken: a World War II Story of Survival by Laura Hillenbrand
|
Killing Lincoln, by Bill O'Reiley
|
The Faith Club: a Muslim, a Christian, a Jew : three women search for understanding by Idliby, Ranya.
We are reading this one this month at our book club. |
Bagdad Without a Map -- Tony Horwitz
Barefoot Sisters Southbound -- Lucy & Susan Letcher Those are two that come to mind. I'm a big fan of non-fiction travel adventure books, too. I could go on and on with the list. |
Ditto for "Unbroken: a World War 2 Survival Story by Laura Hillenbran. This is one book I just couldn't put down.

Barbara Kingsolver's "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle"
The author and her family move to a rural area to eat only what they grow and find locally, and live as much self-sustaining as possible or do without. Very interesting experiment on what they missed (and didn't miss!). |
