I can't seem to find instructions for making a jewelry picture....I KNOW I had it somewhere :roll:

My Mother was a lifelong jewelry collector, and I have been left with boxes and boxes of it! (And I've already given away about half of it) Now that I have a granddaughter, I want to spell out her name with jewelry and frame it for her bedroom. I know it must be simple, but would like some suggestions.

My mom made a peacock out of jewelry. She took off the pin backs etc.. to make them lay flatter, first. She found a picture and had it enlarged. Then she played with laying out the pieces until she liked the look. Then she glued them all down. She had a shadow box made to put it in.
It might be easier to find a shadow box first, and then make the design to fit it :D:D:D

Number one, if you have more than one child, make a strong will.

I think that a deep picture frame will look nice. I made one by putting 3 differing sizes of frames inside each other and gluing them securely. Then I painted it to show off the sparklies. The backing I covered with padding (polyester batting) and then satin from some pretty, colored satin. Then I could use a curved needle to get under the jewelry with thread and secure them on it. One of my daughters still has this among her pictures on display.

If the jewelry has a hook on the back of it, that will help a lot. Fine invisible thread will work to stabilize it. You can make this as large or as small as you want. A very small one will look sharp when located in the middle of a big frame. Check out pictures on the Internet to see what catches your fancy.

My grandmother had a Christmas Tree picture in a frame made from her jewelry that her children used to pass around. Does anyone know how to make those? Linda

I was wondering what to use for the backing? Plywood would probably be too heavy, I'm thinking. Also, is just Elmer's glue strong enough to hold jewelry?

This is my 1st Grandchild, and she will be just 2 months old at Christmas. But since she will never know her Great Grandmother, I felt this rememberance of her might be nice in her room.

How about using styrofoam? It is lightweight - it can be covered with fabric - it can be pinned and glued.

I have one of these a friend gave me yrs ago.Don't do a lot of Xmas decorations, but that one is always on the wall.have had many ppl admire it.Mine is on deep red velvet.
