The tireder I get! LOL I love the Holidays, but, I am not doing as much as I used to. I used to decorate the kitchen, dining room and living room and outside.
Now that the kids are pretty much grown, I don't do so much but I still get tired of cleaning and baking. It seems you are never done! I want to get my house back in pre-Christmas order so I can sit and quilt. Maybe that is what is missing, I haven't really sat down to quilt since before Thanksgiving. I am not too old, but surely am beginning to understand why my parents scaled back alot for the Holidays, easier and still can be nice. |
There is much good in scaling back LOL takes a lot of pressure off, that is for sure :D:D:D

Well, alot of it is, my two oldest sons do not get along. Too much brotherly love brings on brotherly blood. I don't know WHY they don't get along, but they don't.
When they were little, they could play together for a bit, but sooner or later, fists were going to fly. I had to play ref when they were little, but in their 20's, I don't. Middle son is in the Marines and wasn't able to come home for Christmas this year but he is coming home for New Years. I told oldest son and he said he wouldn't be over. That's fine. Each got a day with the family so I don't really mind. At least youngest son can get along with both of them. Just that tension puts me in a sad mood and I refuse for them to stick me in the middle of their not liking each other. I have better things to do than worry about who's feelings will get hurt and of course if I say anything, I am the bad guy. |
Every family has there diman

We're empty nesters and scaled back this year but I'm not happy about that after all. Just didn't have the holiday feeling without the decorations and family. One son has his own family with little children (we visited on Thursday) and the other son is in the Air Force in Alaska. My sister usually joins in on Christmas but she's scheduled for surgery on Tuesday and unable to make it. My brother is a widower and stayed home this year, so it just seemed very empty to me. Next year will be different somehow; I don't how yet, but it will be.

I started scaling back a few years ago but then DGD moved in with me so it's all out decorating again.

Kids are out west and it's just us 2. Scaling back is ok by me! We have *some* decorations up (enough to look nice) but we are stil cooking an 8 lb rib roast! We love leftovers or as we call them here - do-overs. So tomorrow we will "do-over" prime rib, twice baked potato and salad with gorgonzola and pear. Then the next night will be BBQ prime rib sammies and bones with sweet potato fried.
Foodies have trouble scaling back on the dinner *blush* |
I have scaled way back. I do not like to "tear" my house up just to decorate it. I did when the kids were home, inside and outside but not now. I can't wait till I can get back to normal and get in the sewing room.

I've never really been a huge decorator and such for any holiday including Christmas. I'va always liked things simple. Our decorations usually consist of a tree and a nativity set. and a couple of odd things around the house. I can never wait to get rid of the tree, it is usually down within a couple days after Christmas.
Sorry to hear about your sons. Growing up we were never allowed to fight with our siblings, so we still don't...even though I have one brother that I have some real issues with...I just am extra quiet around him and choose to avoid him in a way that no one really notices :) |
