Our evening guest
1 Attachment(s)
Now that the weather is getting warmer and brighter of a evening hubby and I sometimes sit outside and we sometimes have a "guest" join us.
Isn't he just gorgeous. For those who do not know he is a kookaburra. Even though I live on 30 mins drive from the heart of Sydney we do live in a bushy area and have a lot of native birds. He just sits on the fence very quietly looking from one to the other of us taking things in and then flys off when he has had enough. |
What a beautiful bird!!! I would love to have this "guest" join us.
he's so cute. thanks for sharing
I love the Kookas, we don't have any come visit here in Canberra but there are alway some done the coast when we go on holidays. Lucky you having a gorgeous visitor like that :)
How great is that? I would love to be able to have this beautiful bird for a visitor!
They are gorgeous birds which I have only seen in a zoo. How wonderful that you have one come visit you in your own yard. Nature is amazing.
wow, that is cool!!
Now the kookaburra song is flitting through my head!! Lovely bird.
Can't really tell - but is that a really big bird? My DH and I are passionate "birders" with bird feeders, bird baths, bird books, binoculars, etc. at our house where we can see them out of our living room windows, doors, etc. We keep track of all of the birds that come here - our hummingbirds have just left this week and I am pretty sure that I saw a snow bird (Junco) last week. So, your spring is our fall.
What a great photo! I have a bird feeder but it mostly attracts squirrels for my dog's amusement.
I was going to say-that has to be an Australian bird! He's just lovely.
Thanks for sharing your native bird with us. He/she is great. Do they sing? Are they bigger than song birds?
How cool! Our "guests" are usually raccoons, not nearly as pretty.

Neat visitor!
Yep, I have that same song going through my head, too! I also learned it in grade school many moons ago. I'd love to have that bird at my feeder!
He looks very big, I wouls hate to come in contact with that large beak. We had a hawk visit us one afternoon a couple of weeks ago. He was sitting on a fence post about 30Feet away. I was glad my Chihuahua was not outside at the time.
I never saw one before. It does look big. Beautiful bird.
That is really neat. It looks really big, is that just the angle of camera?
What a georgous bird!
I love birds...and this is just awesome. Wish I had a visitor like that.
Wonderful bird!
That is one beautiful bird. We are getting colder and your getting warmer, LOL.
Very nice neighbor! I feed the birds in my backyard here in the states, and a squirrel and chipmunk!
Oh, what a beautiful bird. Thanks for showing us a beautiful pic of him.
We consider ourselves very lucky to have him/she visit.
Some info about them for those interested. They range from about 11" to 17" in length. We often have them sitting on our clothesline early morning and late afternoon/ early evening waiting to catch their dinner. They eat worms and other grubs from the garden. They have a rather loud "laugh" which wakes us most mornings in the summer around 4 am - somehow we do not share their humour at this time of the day. :D |
Thanks for the info. He is a beautiful bird. You are lucky to have him as a visitor.
Thanks for the photo. It is a beautiful bird, and nice to see birds from another part of the world.
I would love to be vistited by such a beautiful bird. Now I have the old Sing, kookaburra sits in an old oak tree...stuck in my head lol.
How fascinating to see wildlife from different parts of the world. Now I'll be singing that song all day!
have never seen a photo of one, or one in a zoo.........thanks for sharing- a most interesting bird.
When I visited my cousins in Australia, they would come and sit on the railing like that. She cut raw steak into narrow strips and we placed them on our flat hand toward the bird. He would peck the meat off. That was so much fun. We would end up with several that saw what was going on and also wanted to be fed.
Nothing more Aussie than a kookaburra sitting in front of a good old Hills hoist.
What a nice friend. Thanks from Mid-Michigan for posting the beautiful bird. He is of course, strange to me, I'm used to seeing wrens, finches, beautiful - but mean bluejays, and cardinals feeding at my house. And every so often I see a bald eagle soaring or mousing from one of my horse fence posts. I will probably never get to your country so thanks for sharing part of you nature.
What an awesome guest, love it when birds show up to "spin a yarn or two".
Gorgeous bird! We maintain 3 feeders and enjoy our 7 pairs of cardinals as well as juncos, tufted titmice, chicadees, sparrows, blue jays.
He is beautiful.....How nice to be blessed with such beauty...Thanks for sharing.
Oh, I haven't seen one in years and years -- lived outside Melbourne for a year when I was 16-17 MANY years ago, and I loved them. Thank you so much for sharing -- you made my day!
How cool! And what a beautiful view you have!!!
