i am moving into my first appartment with my boyfriend soon, and i wanted to knit pot holders for us, that way i could make them to fit to our style rather then trying to make soething fit in, But dont know what kind of yarn stuff to use. im calling it yarn stuff because i know its not exactly yarn that needs to be used but i couldnt think of a better word for it. Does any one know what i would need to use so they will last and wont wear out quickly?
my mom has some my great grandma had made and they still work great theres no spot that have worn down like alot of the cloth ones we have. |
A cotton yarn like sugar and cream my mom makes tons of them I get her the big cones from Walmart but Joanns carries it too.

As long as it is cotton, it won't melt. I use two strands when knitting pot holders, or else knit two and stitch them together.

Sugar n Cream is the brand I use to make my pot holders and dish cloths from as well. It comes in a ton of colors and is not expensive at all. I buy mine from JoAnn's, Michael's or Hobby Lobby because you can use the coupons. :) |

If you can spring for it, use 100% wool yarn. It doesn't melt and has a high temp before it burns.

I'll take a few pics tonight when I get home and post them for you to see. :) There are free patterns on Joann's website for the pot holders too. |
If you buy the sugar and cream brand, the wrapper around the yarn has patterns for all kinds of things...dish rags, tea cozies, potholders, bath mitts, etc. There's a little picture on the ouside of what the pattern is on the inside of the wrapper. At JoAnn's, sometimes, they have free pattern sheets hanging close to the yarns.
