The guy who first thought of the idea must be given an award for originality !!!
What a fantastic idea!

No more spilled dried beans, macaroni, etc.
Don't have to grapple with rubber bands that are tied too tightly.

How to seal a bag and make it air-tight!

Cut up a disposable water bottle and keep the neck and top, as in photo.

Insert the plastic bag through the neck and screw the top – to seal. (see 2nd photo)
(Pull the opening of the bag through the opening of the cut bottle.)

The bottle is made to be air-tight, such that water will not leak,

the secret lies with the top and screw!

Good for us and the environment too.

sueisallaboutquilts 11-20-2010 07:56 AM

That is soooo cool!!!!!!!!!

amma 11-20-2010 07:57 AM

Very clever and useful too :D:D:D

sweet 11-20-2010 07:57 AM

Yes! One cool ideal!

CarrieAnne 11-20-2010 08:00 AM

Thnks for the great idea!

M.E.H. 11-20-2010 08:01 AM

What a GREAT idea!!

ptquilts 11-20-2010 08:08 AM

yes, but when you unscrew the top, won't the bag fall out? Then do you have to "re-install" the screw top each time.
I think I will stick with twist-ties, I only have about 3000 in my drawer.

Grammy o'5 11-20-2010 08:11 AM

Maybe, maybe not. I guess it would depend on how much of the bag you have pulled through the opening (and whether the contents of the bag would pour through the opening or not).
True, it may not work for every use, but for some bags it would be great. (Especially for those of us who don't have a ton of twist ties, LOL)

hobo2000 11-20-2010 08:19 AM

Super idea and a great way to use all the plastic bottles from water that we accumulate weekly.

champagnebubbles 11-20-2010 08:21 AM

very cool

amandasgramma 11-20-2010 08:32 AM

WOW! I'm going to try that on my popcorn! thanks!

luv-e 11-20-2010 08:44 AM

How cool this this......... ;-) ;-)

littlehud 11-20-2010 09:20 AM

What a great idea. I would have never thought of that. Thanks.

If you used a rubber band to secure the excess bag top below the screw threads it would probably stay in place and you could just pour the item out using the bottle opening.

well around here we would have to fight the cat for the bottle caps! I watched her the other morning....she came sneaking into my room....quiet and stealthy (her name in Ninja for a reason afterall!) Looked to see if I was watching her then jumped up on the desk grabbed a bottlecap I didn't throw away and jumped back down with it in her mouth. Soon she was happily batting it all over the den. When we moved furniture the other week we found tons of them under the couch. Dh collects them for the codes in them....apparently she found his stash!

I made bottle cap coasters and also container to put them in.
The container is made with nut can. You can also use the container lid for pinchshion. See below

I think I'll use this idea for going places in the car. I hate to get out in strange towns just to get a snack, so usually take a small cooler on the front passenger side for drinks. I almost always drive alone, so have only my own tastes to consider, and I have strange tastes in snacks.

Would you mind sharing how you made the coasters?

finch 11-21-2010 04:09 AM

I love that idea!!! Thank you so much for sharing that.I sure am going do it.So clever!!!!!!

Confederate Rose 11-21-2010 08:28 AM

We made the coasters (only we made them larger for hot plates)in the 40's when I was in Bible school. We used the medal tops that were on "sodas" then. I'm glad to see someone is doing that now. As for the plastic bottle tops - I'm going to try that too! Good idea!

DebraK 11-21-2010 08:30 AM

I love this idea for the plastic bottle tops.

kpfantz 11-21-2010 08:42 AM

What a cool idea!!! you could also use it for a funnel if you don't have one.

jdavis 11-21-2010 09:41 AM

Cool!
I just saw a product in a catalog that does the same thing, but of course this is much cheaper!
Thanks!

auntiehenno 11-21-2010 10:41 AM

AWESOME!!!!

debbieumphress 11-21-2010 10:51 AM

Yeah - no more spilled rice or beans, great idea. I guess I should wait until I drink the water and not dump it out. LOL. Thanks for sharing.
Just saw the coasters too. You guys have such wonderful "Go green" imaginations. Great!!!!!!!!!!!

IBQUILTIN 11-21-2010 11:22 AM

That is way too clever. Whoever would have thought? Great tip thanx

Or perhaps put one of those bzillion twist-ties around the plastic just below the threads and twist tightly. This really is such a cool idea especially for traveling. Thanks!

joann hussey 11-21-2010 02:35 PM

Waste not ,want not, looks good to me thanks

PEP 11-21-2010 03:37 PM

Love this idea!! However, DH already thinks I collect too much stupid stuff! (He's right, I do but it all has re-purpose potential!!) Patty, Collector Extrordinaire!

BellaBoo 11-21-2010 04:19 PM

Neat idea but the zip lock bags with closing tab is easier for me. When I open a bag I put the bag and contents in a zip lock.

noahscats7 11-21-2010 05:23 PM

Hey guys...Just sit it on a counter before you unscrew. lol

Thanks For Sharing.

Annz 11-21-2010 05:42 PM

Before I saw the picture I didn't know what you were talking about. Now I do.

SittingPretty 11-21-2010 06:23 PM

So clever! They sell something siliar to this, but this is so mech better. Free! (sort of.) lol

madamekelly 11-21-2010 06:27 PM

This is a great idea, but I live in Oregon, so each one will cost me a nickel! Better than stale dry goods or bugs!

butterflywing 11-21-2010 06:44 PM

can you leave all the parts together and keep things in the bottle instead?

Mimito2 11-21-2010 06:48 PM

I would unscrew the top and drop the bag on the floor. Better stick to ziplocks.
