Presents for the guys
 

I have no problem making Christmas presents for my daughters and daughters in law, but have no idea what to make for the guys or the male grandchildren. I do not want to make quilts at this time. They have them already.
Do you have any suggestions of things to make for the guys in the family?

Tote bags that hold computers, or tools, or other stuff, depending on what the guys do. Hey, this makes me think.... has anyone seen electronic motifs for sale in fabric shops?

No ideas, unless you knit sweaters or scraves. Crochet scarves or hats. Maybe sew them PJ pants.

My boys loved boxer shorts out of wild fabrics until they were 13 or 14. I used the Kwiksew pattern. For older men, I have made wine bottle holders (with a bottle in it of course!) and camo mug rugs. If they travel, handle wraps for luggage work well too. I also made fleece socks one year hat all the guys like. Only works with a serger that can flat lock though.

I once made my husband a divided quilted pouch to keep all of his wood files in. He wanted it to help keep the files sharp.

Any man that has an e-reader or laptop might like a case.

Sadly, sometimes there are people you just can't make gifts for.

Last year I made man size totes in camo fabric - woodsy fabric - fish - and also some in their licensed college fabrics. The guys with trucks seemed to like and use the bags for stuff they don't want shifting around in the truck. One year I made a camo apron and hot pads for deer camp.

My husband and boys love sport pillow cases. They all use the standard pillows but have kings size sheets. so they love the custom pillow cases.

I put breast pockets on sweat shirts for my geeky guys - they love it - then they don't have to reach inside the neck of the sweatshirt to reach their pens... LOL

Make the boys some sort of Backpack . I have several grandsons though I have not made any for them my DD has bought some for them and they love them great to take with for sleepovers, or on trips with extra stuff in them for the guys well that is always a problem! Are they involved in any sports, hobbies ?

I made pj's for my grandsons one year and used the camo pattern fabric. They loved them.

* Housecoats/robes

Boxers, PJ pants (I buy matching t-shirts to go with them), robes, pillow cases for any man or boy.

Shoe bags, toiletry bags, laundry bag, luggage tags for those who travel a lot.

Well padded cushion in team colours for those who spend lots of time at the rink, maybe with a matching lap blanket. The benches at our local hockey rink are flat and hard, a cushion is needed. I am sure the same applies to outdoor bleachers in cooler areas.

Fleece vests, jackets or pants for the outdoorsy guy.

Fleece hats, ear muffs (just a thick head band), scarves.

I find that fleece works well for a great many gifts for men. It keeps them warm, it is available in lots of great prints, including team logos, camo, animal and more.

Yes, I made my son pillowcases with computer key fabric and mother board fabric.

* suit bags ... for those that are on the go. Can be plain coloured or could be done in something more personal.

Zipper down the front and an extra pocket or two to hold some basic toiletries (eg. tooth brush/paste, deodorant). My favourite has a large zipper pocket across the bottom that I can put a pair of shoes, change of underwear and a few toiletries.

Make the men pillowcases with their favorite sports team fabrics. For the kids, do "bedtime stories" pillowcases. For example, use puppy fabric, and then add a book about dogs.

Mine like to cook and grill - chef hats and manly aprons with thematic fabric, maybe some pot holders and oven mitts to match.

For those that live alone pillows for their sofa or other decorative items for their house that says it is so personal it couldn't have been purchased and wouldn't be used by anyone else. Monogramed shirts and sweatshirts, monogramed towels for their golf bags..

Last year I made about 25 "quillows", which are really simple. A "quillow" is a quilt or blanket with a pocket attached. Fold the quilt/blanket part into the pocket and you have a pillow.Everybody who got one seemed to really like them. I have seen them in use when I have visited or seen them in the trucks the guys drive.

My newly single son moved to Hawaii, after getting rid of everything except a few things. But he loves to watch
his games on TV with the AC on..so since he's a minimalist, I'm making him a black and white couch throw. About
a hundred 3 inch squares of every small black and white patterns I could find over a year or so. And since he's so
tall, it'll be about 6 by 5, with no padding, just the front and a black with white spots fleece backing. Easy to wash
and no fussy things on it.

I'm thinking of making my retired Army son-in-law (who is now a math teacher) some school room curtains
with math problems (and answers scattered around on them) for his school room. Just in the wondering stage,
not too sure it would be allowed..have to check on that. Any ideas on this? 8th graders might not be amused!

A small pouch that holds a gift card from Home Depot, Lowe's or Best buy.

CD holders that fit over the sun visor in the car were a hit one year. Afghans in a pine cone motif were appreciated.

Oh please do show us ... I totally intrigued to see a pine cone afghan!

My guys might be totally different from most but they have a tendency to lose things. Keys, phones, flashlights,...their minds. The last, I can't help them with but for the others, I make them door hangers. I use recycled pants pockets and a piece of suitable fabric for the backing. If you are putting just three pockets on it, you can put a hole in the top, to fit the doorknob. If you are putting more pockets on it, you can make it to fit a hanger.
I, also make lounge pants, boxer shorts, throws, and 5 gallon bucket covers with pockets. These all go over very well and are requested when they finally get worn out. They last much longer than store bought items.

For your son-in-law......Maybe a wicker basket full of bean bags to toss at some of those unruly 8th graders......LOL

Food. Food. Food. FOOD.

Fleece blanket with fringe on 2 ends. They are really easy to make. Get fleece that depicts an interest they have, or camo fleece, which I made one year, and added a pair of matching socks that I purchased. I made the blanket extra long so he could cover from his feet to his chin while laying in the recliner.

And here I thought that was a given ... non-negotiable! :)
