Does anyone have the answer to this?
Is the flat rate not really a flat rate? I was mailing a baby quilt which fit into a flat rate envelope. I thought the charge was $4.90. They charged me $7.50. When I questioned her she said it was because it was going to Manhattan. So, what is the point of flat rate? (This did not include insurance or confimation)

It should not have been 7.50!!!! I would talk to the postmaster about that!!!! I ship flat rate everyday!

i am thinking maybe I got the wrong info to start with. I don't think it was flat rate envelope. Do they make a flat rate envelope???? Now I am really confused.

The flat rate envie is ridged..and small. you must of gotten the other envie..that is like paper,with plastic..(tyvek?)

you could not of gotten a baby quilt in it. i have stuffed 2 yards of folded fabric in a ridged one..and thats about all.

Each flat rate box or envelope has a maximum weight for that rate. It is a flat rate until it reaches that max weight.

If you used the Tyvex envelope, it's not Flat Rate.
I've been using the boxes/envelopes for so long, I can pretty much grab them with my eyes closed.
The Tyvex one is just Priority and goes by weight.

The flat rate envelope on the front says there's not limits, as long as you can seal with the original seal alone, you can put as much as you want in there. I had a postman tell me it would not get where it was going and would come back to me because it was not "flat". I showed him where it says that and he said "well, good luck...i think it will come back to you for more postage" - what a dip.

Some people are so literal... "flat" to him meant the package had to be flat! That's so cute... or dippy!
