Re-sizing Embroidery patterns
I purchased a design to embroider on my new machine. I know the maximum field size is 5x7. This pattern falls within that range, but it would have to be rotated. I have rotated patterns with my machine, so I knew it could be done. What I failed to realize is that it has to fit within those dimensions set up the way you purchase it. I cannot rotate it until it gets loaded onto the machine, yet I can't rotate it beforehand.
I know there is resizing software out there which I don't own. Is there any other way to rotate the pattern begore I load it onto the sewing machine? Or is there anybody out there that has software that would be willing to resize or rotate it for me? TIA |
I am wondering exactly what you are trying to do. The length of the pattern has to go with the length of the hoop if it more than five inches, why not just rotate what you are putting the design on? I guess the question would be, what size is it and what size do you want it to be?
|
The pattern is this one http://www.embroiderydesigns.com/pro...s/1/78520.aspx
When I dowloaded it into my computer it saved the same direction you see it. My machine field is 7 inches tall by 5 inches wide. The pattern is 6.8 inches tall by 4.11 inches wide. My machine is a Brother PE770, I called them today and they said it can't be rotated until it is on the embroidery machine, which cannot be done because it exceeds the size. They said with PED I can resize/rotate it first. Then it should be able to be loaded onto the machine. I would really like to keep the original size of the pattern if possible, so that would entail rotating the pattern, if possible. I probsbly made that as clear as mud....sorry. |
I don't understand the question either. Why can't you put your hoop on your material the way you want the design to be stitched? The hoop will go with the 7" either vertically or horizontally which means you will have rotated your design 90 degrees before you even load the design into your machine, if you want to.
|
I don't know what software you are using but mine allows me to resize if I hold down the CONTROL key when I drag the handles. This method adds the necessary stitches to the design so you dont have any "bald" spots.

That's what I thought too, that is why I purchased it. However, the design has to be rotated before it can be downloaded into the machine. Brother confirmed this.

Wilcom TrueSizer e2 Download The link above is a free download of a resizer that will also rotate. Thought it might help. :) Mona~ |
I've never heard of this. I think I have done what you are trying to do on my embroidery machine- it's a Brother though not the one you have.
Surely, the shop where you bought the machine will rotate it for you. If not, someone with software that can help? Be glad to help if I can. |
Wilcom Resizer. It's a free download and allows you to edit embroidery files, which should include rotating.
|
I think once it is downloaded on the machine, you can rotate it 90 degrees. I have the PE770. But....since it won't fit if you rotate it, you need to load the hoop by turning your fabric 90 degrees. This should solve your problem. Just be sure you have enough fabric to do this and still have enough on the edges to pull it tight in the hoop.

I have the same machine and I'm not sure why you can't rotate it. Are you putting it on a hat or something that you can't rotate the item you're putting it on?
I usually put the pattern in the machine memory. Save it in the machine and then you can rotate it. You may have to give it a minimal reduction but that's easy too.... |
sylviak and M.I.Late,
I have the pattern downloaded into my computer. I put it (and only it) on a flash drive. When I put the flash drive into the PE770, it doesn't recognize it. If I could get it into the machine, I could rotate it. Getting the pattern onto the fabric and rotating it to fit the fabric (Tshirt) isn't a problem, I know how to do that. The problem I have is that the machine doesn't recognize the file because it is too big turned the direction it is. Brother said unless I can get it rotated to where it will fit ht and width, then I won't be able to load it. The machine is 5" width and 7" ht. The design is 6.8" wide and 4.11" tall. Therefore, if I try to enter it into the machine in that direction, it is too wide. |
I don't think your problem is that the design is wider than it is tall. The design should load onto your flashdrive in a rotated position automatically, because otherwise virtually no one would be able to stitch this design, unless they had a minimum 8x8 hoop.
Are you sure you have the correct format? If so, I would contact the company you bought the design from, because something is wrong here. Perhaps, your machine can't recognize an incorrect format, or a corrupted file. |

I bet if you contact the designer/company...they will fix the file for you (rotate it) so that you can sew it. If not, it may be time to look into EMBIRD software that allows you to do alot of things and is very resonable.

I have the PE770 also. Never had a problem with not loading a 5x7 design. Do you have the correct format? the machine only takes PES or DST. Maybe corrupted? Did you purchase it or is it a freebie? If purchased contact the company, they'll help you.

I thought I read somewhere that it was a PED file. This machine takes only PES files. Could that be the problem?
|
If you get Wilcom Truesizer it will allow you to change the format to anything you need. It's free.
|
I have downloaded Wilcom and have rotated the pattern....very easy to do. It saved as an emb file, how do I save it back as a PES file?
|
I GOT IT!!!! YEE-HAW!!!
Thanks all for all your help and offers to help! |
I'm glad you solved the problem! I don't understand why embroiderydesigns didn't offer the design rotated already because that's how you purchase this size designs. They should be rotated because otherwise it doesn't fit and you can't load it into your machine.
|
you need to change your fabric.

I should read ALL the posts before I put my big mouth in. I am glad you fixed the problem. now write down what you did in case you forget and go through all the trouble again. Sorry!
|
I was going to say Wilcom too , it will also change the format if you find a design you want and it's not in your format. FREE (except Art)
|
I may not understand all the ins and outs of this problem. I resize my designs all the time on my computer before I send it to the machine. When you download the design and then open it on your computer isn't it in a hoop format. Click on the little corners while you hold down ctrl and resize!

Contacting the company is my next step. I just went with what Brother said and assumed it was correct.
