I had a ziplock bag in the freezer too close to the ice maker and just realized that somehow the bag has gotten caught up in the ice maker.

I took a pair of scissors and cut away most of it but the top part is still in.

I'm hoping that when the next tray is frozen, it will pop out what's left of the bag.

Has this happened to anyone and what was your outcome? Am I just wishfull thinking about it popping out? Or is this a "call the repair guy" type problem?

Yikes...sounds like you should unplug the fridge and take the cover ff the ice maker and try getting it out before it screws up the whole thing...sorry.

You can do that? I've never taken the cover off the ice maker before.

How funny, I just realized that I miss-typed the title. I meant to say the bag and ice maker have come together.

You may be surprised when you start "taking the cover off" ..... my brand new fridge...had a rattle....repair man said nothing wrong...but.... after taking the nice cover off.... it's nothing but styrofoam & bent metal shapes in there.....AND..... the cure.... not from the repairman, but from me....fold cardboard & shove it in between the styro & the back of the fridge. I was so disheartened when I found out what actually made up this $$$ piece.

DD also took apart their "fireplace" in their condo.... would you believe the "flame" was actually just a piece of red plastic????

How do you take off the cover? I probably need to turn the water off someplace right?

I tried googling "bag in ice maker" and came up with lots of bags for ice makers...need a better search word or phrase.

I pulled to bar up so it wouldn't make anymore ice until I figure this out.

I also had a zip lock bag too near the ice maker and it got caught up....I did the same as you, cut away as much as possible. Then I watched the subsequent ice cubes carefully and threw them out. My main concern was that it was going to harm the ice maker and since I live in an apt and the fridge belongs to landlord, I really didn't want to have to call him, nor admit what I had done.

All in all it worked out well.

Ok, so maybe I could just let it make ice? At least it's the end of summer and won't need much ice for the winter.

I don't have a landlord to deal with problems like this, I have a dh who some how makes me feel bad about making mistakes like this without saying a word or doing anything. It's probably just me. He never says anything bad to me, I just feel guilty easily.

Landlord could throw me out, DH probably wouldn't ! Actually know that my landlord would like an entire complex of folks like me.....pay rent on time, no problems, easy to deal with, etc. Actually my apt has black mold and he is moving me to another totally refurbished apt, complete with new cabinets, stove, carpet, 12" ceramic tiles, giving me a month's rent, AND he is paying for someone to move me......

Anyway, there are several dumb things I've done in the kitchen and my then DH thought it was dumb, and maybe so. I was boiling eggs, got distracted either by a child or sewing, heard noises in kitchen, went to investigate and eggs had boiled dry, the pan had burned and the eggs had exploded all over the kitchen....even had boiled eggs in the stripling of the ceiling !

Another time I decided to create my own compost to feed our little garden...I collected veggie scraps, coffee grounds, tea leaves, etc. and placed them in a huge Tupperware cake carrier, that I turned upside down to create a large bowl. After a while all of the compost mixture reduced to a liquid...I decided one day that I would pour the mixture on the garden. Being only 5'1" at best, I reached high up over my head and got the container....and I was bringing it down to my level it got away from me and hit the floor......bottom on the floor which caused the entire contents to erupt straight up in the air, in my face, in my hair, all over me......I screamed and ran and got in the shower, clothes and all.....don't remember if it had an odor or not....but a dumb thing to do.

Another dumb thing I did was to warm taco shells in a bread basket one night for dinner.....not knowing the bread basket had some metal in it, it not only caught the taco shells on fire, the basket on fire and burned the inside of the microwave !

And another time, I was cooking fresh turnip grounds in a pressure cooker...again, got distracted, the pressure exploded and I had turnip greens hanging off the curtains, stuck on the window panes, on the ceiling, on top of the fridge...that might of been the biggest mess I've made. Think i sold the pressure cooker in a yard sale after that!

Hope the ice maker issue corrects itself !

You can take the icemaker out of the freezer, and no you don't have to shut the water off. There should be two screws holding it to the wall of the freezer, loosen them (don't take out) and lift the IM free of the wall. Then pull straight out, when you pull it out it shuts off the water. I have done this many times. Let it thaw in the sink, installation is the reverse of removal.
