Repairing Knees in Blue Jeans

My grandson has holes in the knees of his jeans and my daughter has asked me to repair them. The last time I repaired holes in blue jeans you put a flowered patch over it. I don't think my daughter would like that! :) Anyone have suggestions on how to repair the holes?

My grandkids do not like the patch on the jeans. What I do is cut denim a bit bigger then the size of the hole, glue it with glue stick on the underside of the hole and then turn the jeans and straight stitch back and forth over the patch to hold it to the jeans. I learned this from looking at how some of the jeans with holes already in them and then patched at the factory. That was the style. They look ok and the kids like them much better. The patched up hole just looks in style. They say that they feel better on their skin as well. I hope I have explained it so you can understand.

instead of flowers make monster face knee patches. the hole is the mouth, put a contrasting patch under it, add teeth and monster eyes. very cute for little boys. google monster knee patches for ideas

Not my favourite job to try and wrestle jeans under the sewing machine. I open the non-welt sewn inside leg seam to give more space for sewing. A piece of denim behind the hole and use your darning stitch and foot to patch.

I like the goofy pictures idea. That's what my mama did, and when faced with the same problem, that's what I did! It doesn't need to be 3D if you can dig out some dinosaur or any animal fabric. Depends on the kid...
