Hi! I am new here and wondered when I "reply" should I "reply" to the topic page or should I reply to only the person who sent a message (and if so how)? I want to follow the rules... (yes, I'm a rule follower...probably will make me a good quilter?) Thanks! Kim

I hit quick reply when I am replying to the thread post. I am too new to know what the reply in each post means. Sorry if I am no help. I do like the edit feature, although it seems like there is only a limited amount of time to use it before it locks.

Sometimes I answer to the original post and sometimes to one of the answers.

I don't think it makes a difference - on some boards I've seen when you reply to a particular post, it logs who you're replying to directly, whereas here it seems to just reply to the thread... unless you hit Quote Reply, then you're replying directly to that person.

But usually, quick reply, at the bottom of every page, does the job.

Hi Kim,

If you click on "Quote Reply", this is what happens ^^^
You see the original post in your post.

if you hit "Reply" or "Quote Reply", either one will allow you to add smilies in your post: :) :D  8-)  :hunf: ;)

If you just go to "Quick Reply", you get neither of these options.

HTH,

Odessa

Every reply link inside a thread does the same thing. They are shown near each post simply for convenience.

when you use one of the "reply" options, your comment will be added to the public posts under that topic. unless your response is a personal comment you prefer to keep just between you and the person asking the question, a standard "reply" is the best way to go.

we all learn a lot from all the different replies to a beginning question or comment.

ywilma 04-10-2010 01:12 AM

if someone replies to my post how do I find it?

If they use "quote reply" and you have selected email notifications in your profile, you will know that someone has replied directly to you.
Using email notifications let's you know anytime you comment on a thread, that there has been a new comment added to that thread.
I'm not "computer geeky", but I try to share the little bit I do know.
It helps reinforce it in my own meecely mind too.

Thanks for your help. I belong to several quilting frums but this one is so much different.
