Rest In Peace, Etta

:( I just read the news about Etta James passing away and wanted to say goodbye. She was a favorite of mine and I am grateful that we have her beautiful music to remember her by. Thanks for the music, Etta, and rest in peace.

Another marvelous voice gone but certainly not forgotten. She was a real talent!

Love her music and when Beyonce was asked to sing one her songs for President Obama I was shocked. Why on earth wouldn't he ask Etta James to sing her own song for him. He missed out! She was fabulous......listening to her right now in fact. "At Last" is my all time favorite song. RIP, Etta...we'll miss you!

Etta James has been sick with luekemia for years and had Alzheimers, I doubt she would have been able to sing for the President. She was a great talent and had a beautiful voice.

When DH and I got married, we played "Unforgettable" with Natalie and Nat King Cole, and "At Last" by Etta James during the ceremony. We love those 2 songs, and everyone at our wedding did too! Etta certainly had a wonderful, pure "Bourbon" voice.

"At Last" is a favorite of both my sons and mine. She will live on because of her voice and great style.

RIP Etta...she had a rough and tumble life as a woman in the music biz. A true icon.

They don't make them like her anymore. Everyone is a "diva" nowadays.

I never knew her except through her music....an yet I feel as though I knew her well....that is the sign of a true artist. Her voice and her music reverberates through my head at times. She sang her soul. Good job Etta, you did well with your time here.

Caswews 01-21-2012 05:17 PM

Her music and voice and life touched so many people ... May God Bless her soul.

tesspug 01-22-2012 02:42 PM

My DD walked across the patio to her groom standing in the woods to "At Last." The song began just as she walked out of the shadows on her father's arm. To her mama (me) it was breathtaking.

sylviasmom 01-22-2012 05:08 PM

People have a hard time believing me when I say I met Etta "Peaches" James. (Big busted women are always called Peaches) But I did. I lived in Salinas, Ca in my teens. Once a month a dance was held in the local armory. Some the greats that played there, Fats Domino, James Brown, Ike and Tina Turner(yes, he was that mean) And Redbone, before they became Redbone and famous. I had all their records, but when I got married my mom gave them to my nephews for target practice. James Brown was a favorite of hers. Etta James was a great performer. Rip, Peaches. You will live in my memories.

katesnanna 01-22-2012 10:22 PM

Very sad but you left so may good memories for many people. RIP Etta.
