Yep, we have riders on anything above what "they" consider the norm. Take lots of pictures (dated) and put copies in your safe deposit box or with a friend. Should update every couple of years. It all sounds so silly but once you have suffered a loss and gone through the insurance process you realize the value of that time spent documenting.

I called this summer about a rider to cover my sewing machines (8 sewing, 1 serger). Most are vintage, but replacement cost would be a significant amount of money. The agent seemed totally perplexed at what I wanted a rider for. She insisted the cost would be covered by my homeowner's policy. (?)
I never even thought about trying to cover my stash, thread, rulers, Go and dies, cutting mats, rotary cutters, etc. I would hate to have to replace it all - what a lot of $$$$! Maybe I should call my agent back and insist on a rider!

Get an appraisal and then get the rider.
