Looking for a Siberian Cat. I live in San Santonio, Tx .
I have 6 great grandkids and they have allergy to cats.
Siberian Cats are hypo-allergenic and I would love to
get them one for Christmas, so if anyone knows please

They ship puppies, so why not a cat?

I have been in rescue for years and truthfully wonder if there is such thing as a hypoallergenic cat.. maybe a sphynx.. if it has hair it could cause allergies. Siamese tend to cause the worst symptoms in most of my allergic adopters.. My husband is allergic to cats. He uses an inhaler at night and they can not sleep on our bed or touch his eyes. That said I rescued over 140 cats this year alone and have found homes for them so there is allergic and allergic... maybe keep a room that they sleep in that NO cats go in at all. Also they make cat whips you can use on the fur.. helps reduce the oils. I think.. there is no such thing as an allergy free cat.. dander is dander comes from the skin.. they all have some (amazing!). Good luck in your search however. Go to petfinder.com and see what you can spot out there.

You can and its very stressful on the cat to ship them. They fly under the plane not inside it (with luggage) and its very cold and also not pressurized like inside with you.. unless you get someone to carry it on for you under their seat its very traumatic. Also expensive: ie TX to CA is a REGULAR plane ticket plus handling of the cat from point A to B. you need a vet certificate on what has been done (rabies, vaccines all required) so there is another cash register ringer.. it is not an inexpensive venture. At all.

It is the enzyme in a cats saliva that causes most allergic reactions. Apparently the Siberian does not have this enzyme or it is in reduced quantities.
A post was made that dander is what causes allergic reactions. With cats when they groom themselves the dried saliva particles on the skin is what makes the dander, it is not like a human scalp and dandruff.
Be prepared for some serious sticker shock. I believe a Siberian kitten from a reputable (and key word here is reputable) will run anywhere from $800 to $1200. If you find a kitten for less chances are you have not found a reputable breeder and you could be buying a sick kitten or one that has not been properly socialized. To start looking for a kitten now in hopes to give for Christmas does not give you much time to do your homework. At least research the breed thoroughly and check out all pros and cons of the Siberian. They are beautiful cats but you need to know everything you can before spending that kind of money on a purebred.
I have known many cat allergy sufferers that found relief from regularly bathing the cat. So any cat may be hypo-allergenic if you remove the dried saliva from the coat via regular baths. A cat that has been exposed to regular baths since kittenhood will not give you a lot of trouble once they are used to the procedure.

The part of the cabin under the plane where pets go IS pressurized. I have shipped my cats via plane many times. If the area where the pets go was not pressurized, the pets would not survive. Not only would the not survive the depressurized, but they would have froze to death at the altitudes that planes fly at. At 36000 feet, the outside temp is MINUS 46 degrees. At least that is what I saw on the screen when we were flying from Hawaii to Guam.
Flying, either underneath OR in the cabin, can be tramatic either way for ANY pet. I've seen pets come out unscathed, such as mine and I've seen some that are wide eyed and wondering....what the hell just happened?

If you are thinking of flying a pet alone or flying WITH your pet...the best airline to go with is Continental. The pets that fly alone have a handler with them at all times...well, except for when in air. The handler puts the pet on the plane, a handler meets the plane when it lands, takes the animal and is responsible for the animal until it is picked up by "parent or guardian".

Yes, the pet has to have a Health Certificate issued that will not expire while pet is in flight. The certificate is usually good for a total of 14 days. Pets have to have had their rabies shots and sometimes the airlines also want a flea/tick treatment...not to mention a microchip too.

Tickets for pets flying alone can range from $100 on up and can also cost that much if the pet is flying in cabin with you.

There are also companies now that you can contact that will drive your pet to it's destination.

With all that said....I wish I could sign my pets up for Frequent Flyer Miles...they could be flying First Class if I could!!
