If you have a clay flower pot with a hole in the bottom (for drainage) flip it upside down ( hole at the top)on a small stove burner and it will radiate heat like a pot belly stove. We did a lot of camping years ago, and that kept us warm many times. Works gas or electric, just keep the burner on low. Stay warm! :)

quilter1 01-22-2013 05:06 AM

We are not that cold here but is sure is frosty and snowing. It's a good day to stay by the fireplace and do some handwork. My 3 goldens love it when the fire is glowing, they lay near and stay nice and toasty.

Jingle 01-22-2013 05:27 AM

It is 13 degrees here, much colder than it has been. Glad we aren't as cold as you are. We keep our house at 72-73 and have a wood burning stove to help heat livving, dining and kitchen. I have a cockatiel and have to keep her warm.

Ripped on Scotch 01-22-2013 05:32 AM

The high for today here is -12 Celsius. Right now though it is -17. That's just way to cold out there!

QuiltnNan 01-22-2013 06:05 AM

yes, ver-r-r-ry cold. i was up later last night and didn't feel the furnace come on. i thought it died. i was heartbroken to think i'd have to deal with it. laughs on me though. i forgot that i set the nighttime temp to 65. i'm not usually awake at that hour to experience it. LOL

Lori S 01-22-2013 06:09 AM

And I thought I was cold at -4 F ! This is too cold even for my fuzzy buddy.

bjrusty 01-22-2013 06:18 AM

i did live in FL for about 30 years, but my family/grandkids live here. i keep longing for there, though :)

Tartan 01-22-2013 06:30 AM

It is a crisp 5* here today and not nearly as cold as where you are, brrrrrrrr! I have the fireplace going and we have about an inch of snow so I am staying in to sew today. I have found that a fleece vest or jacket are the warmest in the winter.

wolph33 01-22-2013 06:31 AM

my daughter lives in Arizona and said it will be 83 there today.

LadyKassy 01-22-2013 08:33 AM

I think it's about 4 here this morning. I'm not planning on going out - I'm headed to the sewing room to fight my way through a Tent quilt block - it's called Arab Tent and it is really difficult. It should take my all day and take my mind off the cold.

hheelleenn 01-22-2013 08:39 AM

70 degrees in Port Saint Lucie, Florida

fairydawn 01-22-2013 09:25 AM

Below 0 when I got up this AM. Went to work {school} and there were problems with the heat so students and staff were sent home. Yippie!!! More sewing time!

AUQuilter 01-22-2013 09:38 AM

It is 9 degrees here! Turned into a great day to iron scraps and do some cutting.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 01-22-2013 09:42 AM

Thanks for your post. I will try to stop whining about our 16 degrees.

Nanamoms 01-22-2013 11:18 AM

46 degrees here which is cold for Mississippi. Low tonight is 36. Tomorrow's high will be 64!! Who knows, next week we may be back in shorts and flip flops!

erstan947 01-22-2013 11:31 AM

It's cool and crisp here....the natives are freezing but it is perfect for me and no mosquitoes:)

jetayre 01-22-2013 12:05 PM

We are getting cold and settling in for very cold for the next several days. It is 3 degrees at 3PM and suppose to get to -25 degrees tonight with winds to bring wind chill to 35below. Went out got my groceries and staying put beside my pellet stove, and wood stove....and tonight my electric blanket!!!!!!

Teddybear Lady 01-22-2013 12:39 PM

I'm getting cold just reading these posts! It's 31 here. I think there is some wintry weather in our forecast for Thursday...sleet, snow. Hope everyone finds a way to stay warm.

huntannette 01-22-2013 12:43 PM

Bevsie 01-22-2013 02:21 PM

I am in northern MN and it has been -24 two mornings in a row when I got up......-49 with wind chill!
This morning had no water except in laundry sink and basement bathroom.......frozen pipes! Unreal, first in the 35 years I've lived in this house. DH had it fixed within hours, lack of snow for insulation outside he's guessing. Now checking it out more thoroughly....but all is well with the water.
Funny how you want to drink water, wash something, etc., when you don't have water! I had water for coffee, so was pretty calm....lol.
Stay warm!

zennia 01-22-2013 06:57 PM

It was 7 here today. I kept warm by knitting all afternoon.

LoisM 01-22-2013 07:04 PM

Yep...it was a nippy 76 here today. :p

TexasSunshine 01-22-2013 07:14 PM

Supposed to be about 70 here tomorrow, warmer than usual for this time of year.

Ew, I need to watch the weather, I hadn't seen that. I think I have reached my quota for snow and cold.

marymay 01-23-2013 03:47 AM

Look where I live. I woke up to 28 outside. Ladies this is cold for us. I don't even own a coat. So it is sweat shirts for me today. Yesterday it was 72. wolph33 Please stay warm.

dojo36 01-23-2013 04:09 AM

it's 48 here this morning but very foggy out and believe it or not, i'm cold. forecast of 75 this afternoon. i was born and raised in Illinois so I remember what cold feels like but I've lived here for 50 years and love it. So yall stay in and try to stay warm in Minnesota and New York etc or you could hop a plane and come to west texas, lol.

susiequilt 01-23-2013 04:10 AM

One of the problems of living in Florida is you get so used to the warm you freeze at 75! That's sweatshirt weather for me!
I'm so sorry about your cold as it will affect so many people.

chaskaquilter 01-23-2013 04:24 AM

Yes, it has been a few years since we have had what I think of as a "normal" cold spell here in Minnesota. Should get into the 20's by Saturday tho. And we are getting close to February, then I start to think of March and Spring. Yeaaaaaa.

nygal 01-23-2013 05:06 AM

It is cold here too in Eastern NY. Right now at 8:05am it is only 3 degrees...burrrrr.

2manyhobbies 01-23-2013 05:08 AM

Whoa. We're in the Milwaukee area and it's not that cold. Coldest temps, -4. Great time to be sewing.

Country1 01-23-2013 05:18 AM

I was us cold thinking about it being 17 here. Stay warm all you guys and stay home if you can!
Penny

jeaninmaine 01-23-2013 05:20 AM

-1 here but due to get colder as the week goes by. It's 53 in the house right now, I'm just waiting for our wood stove to get it warmed up, it's usually around 64 in here during the cold spells.

wolph33 01-23-2013 05:21 AM

minus 15 this morning brrr we need a heat wave

mythreesuns 01-23-2013 06:50 AM

Wolph33.. you live in my area..we are under the windchill warning area...not just the advisory area. My poor son's wife woke him up freezing... the furnance stopped working and it was only 44 in the house...She said the only reason she did not wake sooner...they sleep under one of my nice toasty warm quilts. lol Stay warm...ok well try..

You're not alone, Ontario, Canada is also in a deep freeze. When I got up this morning it was -40 Celsius (without the wind chill) & tonight it is going to be the worst. We have a wind chill warning in effect & temps should drop closer to at least -50 Celsius !! School buses have been grounded for 2 days & I am sure tomorrow also they will not be running. Ice crystals are still in the air which makes it hard to see. Visibility is only a couple of hundred feet so everyone needs to be extra vigilant & the roads are not thawing so they are all like sheer ice. I live in northeastern Ontario so our temps are always much colder than the southern part of our Province. Stay warm & this too shall pass. The good thing - we get lots of things done in the house like 2 quilts that I need in the next 2 weeks.

damaquilts 01-23-2013 07:31 AM

Didn't think about it until i read this. It says its 25F outside. Hmm a little cold for me . I like about 60 .. Although I think the other day when I went to the store in shirt sleeves at 32F I was the only one. Just can't see getting all bundled up when I go from the car to the store and back and then into the house. I don't like to drive that way too restricting

Caswews 01-23-2013 08:40 AM

We have an inversion going on in the western part of Colorado, so we are cold as well. Wood stove is going, broke a record of 22 + days of minus temperatures since the records started for this area. Cannot wait for the next storm to come in with some high winds to blow the inversion out and we start getting at least in the 30's during the day. So ready for Spring <thumbing thru seed catalogs !LOL>. Hope you all warm up soon as well !

SewExtremeSeams 01-23-2013 09:16 AM

You must be so cold! Our place feels cold inside when it is in the 20s outside. Brrrr
