I keep getting the "so many people have unfriended you." Since I am not on FB, I know it can't be true so I categorically ignore these spammy things.

IF you are using a PC rather than a Mac:
IF you are running Windows XP or Vista:
Try this to see if it will help you lose some of those pop up ads.
Click on the Start button on the very lower left corner of the screen.
Click on CONTROL PANEL in the right hand panel.
Click on INTERNET OPTIONS.
Click on the tab that says PRIVACY.
Slide the little bar to MEDIUM HIGH position.
Below that, click on POP UP BLOCKER to turn it on.
You may have to restart your computer for these settings to take effect.

At the top of the page are ads that help to support the Quilting Board. They are called affiliate ads. They earn a little bit, depending on the advertiser, either by pay per click or pay per purchase. There is no harm clicking, which I do all the time to support the board that we all use so much.

Best advice is to avoid the temptation unless you want malware or spyware on your computer.

I hate those ads that try scare tactics to get you to pay attention to them. Always ignore those....or you end up with undesireable software automatically installed on your computer and it's very difficult to remove and may even damage your system. IGNORE=DELETE !

I use Google Chrome and I can set what ads I want to see. I have the ads set for my interests. If you see a tiny blue arrow box on the right top side of the ad you can click on that and set your preferences for the ad. You can opt out of all ads too.

If we want Quilting Board to exist, it's important that advertisers get some results, I think. So I often click on ads of interest, such as Marshall Dry Goods, or other quilt related ads. It is amusing that the ads are clearly tailored to the subjects of many posts. So if someone puts something in a post about eating doughnuts, there might be a Dunkin Donuts ad appearing at the top. In that way, they are spying. But the other side of it is these advertisers support the website. I don't pay to see Quilting Board, though it must cost quite a bit to create and present, even if those doing it are often volunteers. So I pay by supporting advertisers if they are of interest to me. What others say about good spyware and being careful, is true of course. As with anything else, be careful. However, nothing is truly free except the sunshine and fresh air, though I pay plenty in taxes to live in my home.
