Someone is spying on me
Just a second ago, near the top of this page, a pop ad appeared that said 2 people were spying on me. Does anyone have any information on this? I wanted to click on it to see what it was, but was afriad that it might be a virus so did not go to the site.
I don't click on anything, here or elsewhere if I can help it. Viruses are everywhere, so like you, I'm careful. I hate ads too by the way!! I ignore them as best I can.
Always practice safe "clicking". If you didn't ask for it specifically, never click on an ad for safety.
If you have adequate computer protection, spying shouldn't be an issue...check your setting and contact your security software if you have concerns. |
Do not click on this, I had to go into Remove Programs to get rid of the darn thing.
It's just an ad for a "security" program. It means nothing. Ignore it and a new ad will be up there before long.
i use the free software AdBlocker and Firefox for my browser. i never see those ads.
It's at the top of my screen right now! I just ignore such things and they go away!
Thanks for sharing ladies. I to do not click on anything either.
It is it the top of my page right now. I will not touch it. I never go to any stuff that pops up on my PC.
peace |
I think those 2 people are spying on me too! Just ignore it, it will go away. Don't believe everything you read.

I keep getting the "so many people have unfriended you." Since I am not on FB, I know it can't be true so I categorically ignore these spammy things.

IF you are using a PC rather than a Mac:
IF you are running Windows XP or Vista: Try this to see if it will help you lose some of those pop up ads. Click on the Start button on the very lower left corner of the screen. Click on CONTROL PANEL in the right hand panel. Click on INTERNET OPTIONS. Click on the tab that says PRIVACY. Slide the little bar to MEDIUM HIGH position. Below that, click on POP UP BLOCKER to turn it on. You may have to restart your computer for these settings to take effect. Jan in VA |
At the top of the page are ads that help to support the Quilting Board. They are called affiliate ads. They earn a little bit, depending on the advertiser, either by pay per click or pay per purchase. There is no harm clicking, which I do all the time to support the board that we all use so much.
I miss out on a lot of that "stuff" using Firefox
Best advice is to avoid the temptation unless you want malware or spyware on your computer.
I hate those ads that try scare tactics to get you to pay attention to them. Always ignore those....or you end up with undesireable software automatically installed on your computer and it's very difficult to remove and may even damage your system. IGNORE=DELETE !
I was not spying on you instead I was working on my doll quilt.. Hugs
I use Google Chrome and I can set what ads I want to see. I have the ads set for my interests. If you see a tiny blue arrow box on the right top side of the ad you can click on that and set your preferences for the ad. You can opt out of all ads too.
If we want Quilting Board to exist, it's important that advertisers get some results, I think. So I often click on ads of interest, such as Marshall Dry Goods, or other quilt related ads. It is amusing that the ads are clearly tailored to the subjects of many posts. So if someone puts something in a post about eating doughnuts, there might be a Dunkin Donuts ad appearing at the top. In that way, they are spying. But the other side of it is these advertisers support the website. I don't pay to see Quilting Board, though it must cost quite a bit to create and present, even if those doing it are often volunteers. So I pay by supporting advertisers if they are of interest to me. What others say about good spyware and being careful, is true of course. As with anything else, be careful. However, nothing is truly free except the sunshine and fresh air, though I pay plenty in taxes to live in my home.

Hate those ads. Learned a long time ago and it cost me more than I wanted to pay to fix. I click on none of those. And also for the on FAcebook, gotta watch those too. As always, IF IN DOUBT, DON'T!

The only time you need to be concerned is if you see the light go on that your webcam is operating....which just happened to our daughter. Her computer was hacked, we cannot find the virus, it has hidden itself, she got a pop up that she was trying to access her last year's tax return....she wasn't....yesterday her webcam came on. We have shut down the computer and are taking it to the Geek squad this weekend.

that kind of stuff pops up all the time-ones that say you are being spied on, ones that say facebook friends have 'un-friended' you...it is all (internet garbage) don't ever click on anything like that at the top of a page...if someone actually un-friended you or something else ligit you would be contacted through (proper chanels) - a personal message or email---not some scam pop-up....some other's that sometimes appear...'someone has checked your credit score' or there has been a change to your credit score...'paypal has suspended your account'; ....there are actually hundreds of them out there---never ever click on something like that--if you see an (ad) that actually get's your attention-you want to check it out---don't click on it---write down the link address & go to it on your own...if a facebook message pops up-don't click on it- go to your actual facebook page & check it---be safe/not sorry...those ad's are just that- just like buying x-ray glasses from a comic book....

If the ad is for a vendor you are actually interested in that you know is on the up and up (like the fabric shops everyone talks about) then it is a good thing to support them. If the ad is for some questionable source, then ignore it. As for the spam emails, just delete them. I feel very fortunate to get very few of the Viagra etc ones since I use gmail. Used to get tons of those everyday on my work computer.
don't touch it... leave it go.................... if someone is watching you, just smile or stick out your tongue! hee hee
I think it is the CEO and the developer of that program that is spying on you, LOL. I downloanded adblocker on my computer and that eliminates most of the ads. The ones that bug me are the ones that come through on facebook as a post from my friends. Wouldn't it be wonderful if these creative geniuses could channel their brilliance for good things?

It works on the Firefox browser, others may have a similar feature. Firefox offers it for free in their add on section. But as usual there is a buy it feature. I use the free version and it is just fine. I have had it on this machine since November of last year and it has blocked over 146,000 social and company sites from tracking me. I use this on both my PC and Laptop. It blocks companies and social sites from stalking me...lol It works great, I just conducted a brief experiment.... I went to 5 newspaper websites I read (local newspapers where family live) and 3 news sites. Blocking stats ranged from 4 blocks to up to 12 for my hometown newspaper site in Michigan. |
If you pay attention, you'll notice that the ads will reflect what you've been looking at in websites, etc. The downside of being online is that everything is set up to keep track of what YOU'RE interested in, and the ads reflect it.
