Ten dolls are in the arms of a Very sick N.C. child tonight

I received a note this evening from the lady who delivered ten dolls for me. Here is what she had to say. This took place in a hospital setting today. If the lady wants to let you know who she is, I'll let her talk more about it. Below is a copy of the e-mail she sent me. The kids are 6 to 9 years of age. Four are boys. As to who the quilter is:
(Left name out...she is a quilter from the forum and reads to a group of kids. Of these ten, nine have cancer and one has uncontrolled diabetes)

OMG they loved the dolls. It was a huge success and nurses from other floors came to see as well.

The supervisor is suppose to call you tomorrow or friday. The parents were not comfortable at this time with
pictures and I told them that was ok. So not sure when she will call but her name is Beverly. I never seen so many smile"s on the kids faces. They truely were happy. I gave them all the birth certificates and story. I actually read the story to them along with a christmas story. Thank you for making these wonderful children happy. It was very sweet of you.
I will be out of town the next few days. Will try to check e-mails.
Thanks again
Huge Hugs

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEARS!

God Bless You!

How much love and car you have put into all those beautiful dolls. I can imagine how happy they were and how they will take them everywhere with them. God has given you a wonderful talent god bless you and the children who receive them.

Love the boy dolls. So kind of you.

Joy Higdon 12-20-2012 03:45 AM

May God richly bless you for all the work you put into these. I know it was a blessing to you to know that you, for a moment, gave them much joy and could take away some of the pain. Blessings to you.

ArtsyOne 12-20-2012 03:55 AM

What a great idea! I particularly like the boy dolls because people often forget that little boys could use the comfort of a doll too.

Sandygirl 12-20-2012 04:41 AM

Very cute! I love these too! Kids need something to comfort them!

thanks so much to all of you for your wonderful comments on the dolls. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall when the little ones got their dolls. I wish them comfort in the day and in the dark of night with them. The girls are 24 inches high and the boys 28 inches. With my health issues, there isn't a great deal I can do, but this I can, and am honored to have been able to design and sew these for the children so in need of something nice to hold onto, during troubled times. Without the help of so many across the USA including the Netherlands and Japan, I have received fabric and lace, donations, etc, so each doll is full of love from more then just me.

Thanks again for those words that encourage me.

nannyrick 12-20-2012 11:34 AM

What a wonderful thing to do for these kids. God Bless You.

wordpaintervs 12-20-2012 11:45 AM

thanks a million for the replies. I wish I had enough time to make a doll quilt to go with the dolls. Dolls are 24 and 28 inches high (boys taller). If anyone should wish to help with a doll quilt, please PM me for my mailing address. The dolls are 18 and 20 inches across arm to arm. Do let me know if you are aware of a child in need. I am the only one making these dolls so it might take a while to finish (12 hours for girl dolls) but we will send one the childs way. They are free to child with devestating problems (cancer, etc, abuse....)

What a wonderful thoughtful gesture (plus a lot of work). I am sure those dolls will be loved for many years. God bless you!

wordpaintervs 12-20-2012 02:55 PM

thanks so much for writing me. I don't remember ever having a rag doll, but do wish that had been the case. I hug my dolls when they are finished, and say a prayer that the right doll goes to the right child and brings comfort.

I am honored to know each of you at the forum

Bless you the kids love them they can hold them tight and feel the love

Carol34446 12-21-2012 10:02 AM

Would love to know how you make them so I could make some for kids around here in Central FL.
What you do is wonderful and so needed. Parents of sick childern are under so much stress and to see their precious child get the love and comfort from the doll must help them too.
Hugs,
Carol

Being a nurse myself, I can tell you that the holidays are lonely times for childern and adults that are in the hospital...Bless you for making their day a little brighter...I knew they appreciated it...bless you for your kindness.
Merry Christmas.

Carol,

My dolls have always been free, and I have been helped to make 134 so far because of ladies across the USA. I would be happy to send you a doll kit for both boy and girl dolls, plus a fabric cut out for a girl doll, if you'd like. The cost is free. Please do know that this is my own design, and preserve my copyright.. The dresses (two per doll as she is topsy turvy, take 1 and a half yards each and it is a yard (slightly under) for the body. The girls are 24 inches high and the boys are 28 inches tall. For the boys I buy used like new 6 month size clothes (love overalls on them) and often find them on half price days at 2 local thrift shops. Sometimes I have to adjust the pants waistline. It would be after Christmas before I could put it together. I use 4 sectios of different colored ribbons together to tie around the waistline of each doll. (Snugly to give it shape.). The bodies are quite ugly before they get finished, but then because of the shape, they have fat widecheeks to kiss and put wide smiles on for the kids. If you wll PM me, I will need a mailing address. The doll insructions will have my phone number in the event you have questions. God bless and hope many dolls ate available to a VERY sick child because of you. Merry Christmas.

Thanks to all of you that write to me. Like I've said before it encourages me to continue. I was a licensed vocational nurse for 27 years before retireing. i have 34% of my lungs because of smoking for 35 years, although I quit in 1990. I have emphysema, and use O2 at night and sometimes during the day. Sewing I can do and i am honored to be able to help this precious children. If you know of a child in need please let me know. I am the only one physically putting my dolls together to bring them to llife in my local area, so it takes a bit. The boy dolls are faster. Two children were laid to rest a few years ago with their dolls, so it tells me they were loved. Plese all of you that see the dolls, send good thoughts and love, plus prayers if you are a prayer for them. It is needed.

JANICE E. 12-24-2012 09:00 AM

You have done such a wonderful thing, you will be paid in Gods blessing. And the kids, may the light of the holiday bring them many wonderful things and a healthier 2013.

wordpaintervs 12-24-2012 10:34 AM

I so agree with you Janice. It would be wonderful if these precious children saw more good things, and less sickness. Thanks for your reply.
