Have you noticed them going up? Around here some of the places have put astronomical prices on things, including simple JUNK!
I think it's due to our economy. Before, when the economy was good, everyone prefered to buy new....now we have more and more people buying used because they can't afford new anymore, and because of that the prices are going up.... ~sigh~ |
I have noticed that also I have a couple of thrift store that try to check out every couple of weeks and prices are getting higher and higher
|
Our thriftstores have always been on the expensive side... now they are getting ridiculous LOL
I think it is because most are calling themselves "antique" shops  :D:D:D |
I noticed this sometime ago on just simple vases. And looking for anything is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Seems like there are 2nd hand stores poping up everywhere. If you had time to check them out you might find a bargain.

The grocery store is what gets my goat. My coffee downsized their can a year or so ago. Now the price went up $3.00 to $12.95.
Darn, coffee and butter are two things that I have to use as 'real' food. |

some places they charge more for used clothes than walmart charges for new.
|
Yes indeed !!! Cashier told me come on Fridays' ....1/2 price on everything !!!!
|
Yeah! If you ever posted or looked on Craig's list? Used to U could find just about anything, now U have to look, look & look. Since businesses posted there are wayyyy too many to view. I've posted somethings for sale & when I go back to view it, it's wayyyy down the list. Each pg is 100 posts I think. Things are cheaper tho because everyone needs some extra cash.
  |
Iv'e noticed it too.

Yeah, a used t-shirt is crappy condition for $4, I don't think so! They used to be $.99 not too long ago. I think they have realized people with more money are shopping there so they are trying to take advantage. I try to buy whatever color tag is on sale only unless it's super cheap or I *must* have the item and those are few and far between.

I don't see many deals there anymore. Went to a thrift store today and found zilch, but lots of people were there buying. Bargains are still best at yard sales if you keep on the look out.

Around here, the change started a year or so ago. The thrift store parking lots were full of pricier cars, and an upscale crowd seemed to take over, Meanwhile, store rents went up, driving a lot of bargain places out of business.
Bargains are getting harder and harder to find. Like ptquilts said, some places want more than things cost new! |
yes, and now even making clothes will not be inexpensive due to fabric being sky high - self sustaining as much as possible gardens, canning, sewing what can be sewn, mending, etc. I'd love to even have chickens - but can't yet. Hanging clothes on the line - less money out for electricity. Keeping all things off during the day will help... we didn't run our heat last year - we would cook in the evenings instead to warm up the kitchen and family room for the evening then go to bed... many ways to save money to be able to buy clothing, etc. Try bartering among friends even...

I was in our Goodwill shop last week and they wanted $15 for a trashy lamp!! You could get a brand new one for $8 at K-Mart!! It is crazy what they are charging for some of that stuff!!!
|
I don't think the show "Storage Wars" is helping the thrift shop prices either...these guys are going and paying a TON of money for storage units, and then have to make that money back...
I know our own storage auctions have prices going sky high because of the show... |
For the Salvation Army store here in our area, over-charging is not new. They wanted $6-8 or more for jean with holes in embarrassing places on them. I don't get it. What a rip-off! A lot of stuff with stains all over the front, too.
