I suffer from TMJ and tinnitus. Does anyone have any hints/tips on how to ease the pain? My dentist prescribed a mouth guard which helps. Tinnitus is constant. Boom boxes in nearby cars are extremely painful.

I heard there is a homeopathic medicine that is supposed to help with tinnitus. My TMJ was so bad at one point I was not able to open my mouth more than an inch. I had to just deal with it I lost 60lbs and over time. PT was an option and it did help a little. The pain is not as bad now. Sorry you have to go through this. I will see if I can find the name of the medicine. Jade

I have Tinnitus in both elbow. Thank goodness it is not constant pain, but when it hurts it really hurts. I take Aleve and rub with Apercream.
You should go to the doctor he can give you some exercise that will help wth the pain.

I found this link thought it might be a jumping off point. I had not idea that I needed to avoid saturated fats and other stuff. Hope you feel better soon. Jade

I really don't know what to help you with ringing in your ears. my husband is almost deaf now due to that. It would drive me crazy. instead his having the t.v. as loud as he can is doing that.
TMJ is helped by wearing a mouth guard. You don't even know most times when you are grinding your teeth or clenching your jaws. so you must get one. My insurance paid for some of the cost of mine. it cost about $400.00 but they may have cheaper options.
good luck hon.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I've had tinnitus in my right ear for about 15 years. My Dad told me I would get used to it and he's right! I only notice it once in awhile. Not that I like it but my Dad and I both had hearing loss from birth. Not sure if that's what caused the tinnitus though.
Now I hear it as I'm writing lol :D
No advice for TMJ, sorry

No advice for the ringing in the ears from here either. I have it and my physician said he'd refer me to Portland Univers hospital (3 hrs away) because NO ONE in our area wants to even try to help people with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! frustrating!

Braces *can* help with TMD and tinnitus (tinnitus is often a sympton of TMD). Emphasis on *can* since TMD is an umbrella diagnosis. Joint and/or muscle. Injury or arthritis. A lot of possibilities.

Until you get the custom mouth guard you can try one of the generic ones they have in the sporting goods section that kids (teenagers) use for sports. It could help...

Agree with the others about a mouth guard. FYI, DH had an expensive custom one, but when it wore out he got a customizable one from the drugstore (you shape it using hot water) and he says the fit is just as good.

My tinnitus is related to my hearing loss, and thus my hearing aids have helped a great deal, but that might not apply to you.

Good luck - I hope you find something that helps.
