Traveling from Montana I15 to Las Vegas on i15 want comments driving experiences

Ok I'm a real chicken when driving I admit it. We will entering into Montana from Canada and traveling on I15 all the way to Las Vegas. I'm hoping alot of you can tell me what it's been like to travel through the mountains. Is there alot of snow right now. I know that things can change between now and Jan 25th. What has been your experience driving. I'm sure there are lots of quilters on here that do this drive from different parts and getting onto I15...So everyone jump on in and let me know what to expect. We are coming from Southern Saskatchewan. Our final destination is going to be Indio California where we have rented a house from Jan 31-Feb26th.
Thanks everyone.

take it easy, take your time, stop when you feel like it, watch the weather, it can be treacherous at times, and enjoy. the mountains will be the hardest part, especially with the snow, but you probably know that. have a great time..

It sounds wonderful! We travel the I15 from San Diego to Las Vegas but no mountains of any consequence to deal with. Everything north of Las Vegas is another story. Hope you have an all wheel drive vehicle and chains.

Stop every couple of hours and get out and walk around at the least. Mountains are mountains. You go up. You go down. You go left, right, right, left, left, right, left, etc. An interstate is a cake walk thru the mountains for the most part unless you're in an 18 wheeler. Pay attention to the road signs, if they suggest a slower speed, slow down. Never mind the morons that think they have to get there first. They're the first ones to the accidents. Take the time to stop, go in and sit down to eat at least twice a day. You really do need the break! And personally, I like ketchy tourist trap places. They're fun. So try and stop at at least one in every state for some funky little souvenir. Lots of those places have souvenir thimbles!

It's not the drive or the distance I'm afraid of...it's mostly going through the mountains. Have heard some pretty horrible stories from people who have traveled through the mountains in the winter....my Dear wonderful Fiance' said he would fly me to vegas and pick me up lol...bless his heart....We also will be going through Idaho falls which I heard isn't much fun in January/February

Pay a LOT of attention to the weather forecasts...and be sure you have chains and good tires on your car. Don't try to set a speed record going that way...I was born and raised in Montana (and my Dad was from Saskatchewan) so I'm a little familiar with the area. Don't be a hero! Enjoy your trip!
