Living in Australia I have just been caught with Trick or Treat - a bit of a surprise as I wasnt expecting it. Has anyone else had them yet

I've had about 4 groups this evening.
Was prepared as last year we had a note in our letterbox letting us know that kids would be coming, great idea as not really celebrated here.
The kids have all been dressed up and look so cute!

not really into halloween as not something done here in Aussie land and as we live semi rural. Surprisingly we had one lot of door knockers tonight but by the time we realised it they were on their way out which is just as well as I had not had time to shop and had nothing for them..

We have had two groups and my hubby got up to both of them - we were not prepared but had bought some mentos as Chicken Feed yesterday so they got a packet each. Chicken Feed is a cheap shop like Crazy Clarks etc - have a great day

Going to DS and DIL's. We live too far from the road, so no trick or treaters. Mailed cards to gs and 2 gds last week and will see our blue frog tonight.

Around our neighborhood we've all decided to be "Bah, Humbug" type of folks. Around here for blocks almost no one leaves the lights on during beggar's night.
After having masses of kids dumped from big vans into the middle of crossroads, and having so many of them show up at once that we can NOT, LITERALLY see the lawn, and having to look UP at the beggars instead of down at 3 or 4 cute little guys, we decided we would donate to the local Boys and Girls' club here in town. And any extra bags of candy we had for our own families are going today or tomorrow to local nursing homes.

One other thing that my friends and I used to do many years ago when this neighborhood was swarming with little kids..was to put candy in zip loc bags and tape them shut. Included in each one was one of our envelope return address stickers. That was in the days when people were putting needles in candy and some hospitals were even offering to Xray candy for kids.

And we made darn sure that kids only went to houses where we knew the people.

Kids have to be reminded, time after time, NEVER to go into a house with anyone. I once saw a mother walking with her daughter who was selling some sort of school candy, and while Mom was leaning on a car chatting to the driver, her daughter, looked about 7 or 8, walked into a house when someone opened the screen door. But the driver alerted the mom who rushed over and the little girl came out safely.

Scared the spit out of me..her too obviously. Too sad that you can't trust any stranger around kids.

I would LOVE for all newspapers to run columns like my home town one does. The Cabell Standard from West Virginia runs a regular part with people's names and ADDRESSES and what they were arrested for..such as George Renolds (made up name) 1234 Clove Ave (made up address) Hurricane, WV.
Failure to register as a sex offender.

Now if I lived at 1235 Clove Ave I sure as heck would not allow my kids to play any where around that address at any time, no matter how nice dear old uncle George was when he gave candy to kids.

But here in California, bleeding hearts do not allow that, they want all sex offenders to "have the chance to go straight".

No comment I make about that will be allowed in this forum.....

I live on a private lane with 8 houses on it, one unoccupied. One neighbor has kids, so we get some. Our town is very small and has a community park accross from my house. They have a party for the whole township. I get about a dozen kids who come on their way to the party. Our trick or treating is from 4-6 today. Today is my son's birthday (49) so am taking a cake to him.
