Cecil is a 10" red eared water turtle. Ever since she got out of the tank and hid from us for 2 weeks, i've been taking her outside for walks. She is 2 1/5 y/0.

I love turtles. My SIL has a box turtle he found in Nebraska while he was turkey hunting, so he named it(HE SHE??) Turkey. They have had Turkey for almost 3 years.

My DH's aunt has a turtle that is over 40 years old!! I'll have to ask him exactly how old he is but he's up there. All the "boys" are in their 50s now and this is one of the turtle's from a vacation when they were young boys and she got each of them one.

lenette 05-09-2011 05:47 AM

How funny that she hid for 2 weeks. Looks like she enjoys her walks!

A "Red-Eared Slider", I had a few of those as a child. I don't think any of mine ever was ten inches though. Six or seven inches at the most. Thanks for the trip down memory-lane.

jeannie t 05-09-2011 08:59 AM

Hi Cecil

CarrieAnne 05-09-2011 10:16 AM

Hes cute!

raksmum 05-09-2011 10:21 AM

We had a red eared slider for about six years. One thing we did learn about them is that they grow according to their environment. We were always buying a bigger tank because he kept growing. When we quit buying bigger tanks he quit growing. We gave him away several years ago and is still going strong with his new owners.

Looks like a happy turtle to be going outside! When my daughter was little, she used to take her hamsters out and let them play in a clover patch while she watched. They loved it and it was so cute!

Hello from NJ Cecil

fratcat 05-09-2011 05:01 PM

I love turtles and believe in protecting them. I was going to church on Mother's Day, and when I came down the road close to my house, before a highway entrance, there was a turtle trying to cross the road. I immediately stopped my car, ran to it, high heels and all, and put it back into the grass near a water source, away from the road. when I came home 4 hours letter, I checked that area to make sure that I did not see a dead turtle anywhere near that particular entrance. I just feel that turtles are special and have a special purpose here on earth and need to be protected. I think your Cecil is very handsome., May he live 50 plus years and have a good life.

quiltingfan 05-09-2011 05:09 PM

I have always wanted one. Last year we had a turtle lay eggs in my yard, we waited anxiously for them to hatch. They never did. I ended up digging around them and seeing if they were still there they were all rotten. If we were not moving so much I would get one. Thanks for sharing.

GramaLaura 05-09-2011 05:56 PM

Cecil you are quite handsome - for a turtle

nancia 05-09-2011 09:01 PM

we found a turtle in the piney woods of texas. he was a box turtle living amongst the trees, so naturally the kids wanted to take him home with us. like fools we did. well, turned out speedy was a water turtle and ate bananas, who knew? so we put him in a major aquarium. guess the water got a little hi and one day there was no speedy. 4 yrs. later. our neighbors showed us the burrow under their garden shed where their turtle lived. seems about 3 yrs ago he had just turned up in their yard and made himself to home. we oohed, ahhed, and never said a word about ol' speedy. i really think our dog took speedy for a walk and never brought him back.

You're not alone in saving turtles! I did the same thing one day on my way into work. Saw a turtle in the middle of the road, pulled over, ran over to it, and it scooted across the road, right into the curbstone! Saved its little butt! so cute.
