TV in Bedroom

years ago, I read that couples who have a TV in their room sacrifice their love life and intimacy to watch TV.

Tonight my DH and I have on the TV and we're each pounding on our separate laptops.

Guess we won't have to pull the shades tonight! :D

jaciqltznok 06-19-2012 08:40 PM

hehehhe...I have had the TV in my bedroom my whole adult life....with HBO, skinamax, and DVD players, it is more fun!

sharon b 06-19-2012 08:42 PM

LOL I heard that years ago - wonder what the "experts" have to say about all the new gadgets that have come out since that report

I can't sleep without a TV for background noise - maybe that explains why I am single  LOL

earthwalker 06-19-2012 08:54 PM

Hate having any electronic/tv/etc. equipment in our bedroom....don't even have a digital clock. Have enough electronics during the day....don't need them while we are chillaxing in the boudoir.

luvTooQuilt 06-19-2012 08:59 PM

No tv in our room.. There's seven other rooms he can go into if he wants to watch tv...

Same goes with laptops --- no place for them in our bedroom

One exception iPhones - we use them instead of alarm clocks.

We live out in the country , no shades needed for any room !!!

The TV in our bedroom is on almost 24 hours a day. Of course, there's usually only one human in there at a time. I'm a full time student so I'm always up late and hes a 3rd shifter and needs the background noise to sleep during the day.

Me 2! (background noise and single :D)

Before I retired I worked the midnight shift. Needed the TV to drown out noise from outside so I could sleep during the daytime. So yes, the TV has been in our bedroom forever. Now I turn it on and put it on sleep timer so it goes off shortly after I fall asleep.

KarenR 06-20-2012 02:00 AM

I never heard that but it makes sense.

and for me! i set the timer to turn the tv off after getting to sleep. strangely, this is a new habit in the last few years. as the kids were growing, i couldn't even stand to hear the tv in the other room when trying to go to sleep. so the kids all had to retreat to their rooms to read, or whatever.

Have not had a tv in bedroom, and don't plan on it. My parents had one in their bedroom, and I decided no way! :)

kountrykreation 06-20-2012 05:03 AM

Have to have one on in the bedroom... only way to sleep, it drowns out all the SNORING!

ptquilts 06-20-2012 05:59 AM

We only have one TV, in the LR. Now will someone tell me why, when I am watching TV and fall asleep, when I get up and go to bed, I can't sleep?

mltquilt 06-20-2012 06:06 AM

No TV in bedroom in 34 years of marriage. Thinking about one for sewing room.

We have had one for several years, my husband goes to bed before and it is off then. I wear foam earplugs and they block all noise, even my cat that is trying to learn how to talk.

amandasgramma 06-20-2012 06:43 AM

Same here!!!! Nothing like snuggling up on the bed to watch a movie --- quite frankly -- MORE will happen doing that than us sitting on the couch and chairs in the living room!!!

Barbshobbies 06-20-2012 01:48 PM

We had a T-V in the bed room for about 20 yrs. Can`t say we ever used it. Gave it away when it was called an old T-V!

When I was growing up, my folks wouldn't let me have a TV in my bedroo & I swore when I was "grown up" I would have one. The instant I moved out? TV in bedroom & have had one ever since (usually the biggest, nicest one in the house). I heard someplace that Oprah has some vendetta against TV's in the bedroom. Whatever...

I couldn't sew if I didn't have one in my sewing room. I like to watch either hockey games or quilting videos when I sew.

On this topic, I think this one is a cracker!

Never a TV in our bedroom, DH did shift work for 25 years, used a box fan for noise blocker and still use one.
Must work, been married over 50 years.

I need to be out in the country, spent a lot of time on grandparents farm growing up, no locks on doors, no shades or curtains on windows, piece and quiet and beautiful with a huge garden. Memories

craftymatt2 06-21-2012 09:12 AM

Love it. I have my cpap in my room and that is it. If it were not for my sleep apnea, I wouldn't have it. I love the chillaxing! great word.

Stitchnripper 06-21-2012 01:55 PM

We have a tv in the bedroom but rarely turn it on. Not against it, but, we tend to read and I put the tv on in the bathroom while I am getting ready in the a.m. Yes, a tv in the bathroom. I watch it when I get ready and when I am soaking in the bubblebath.

blueheavenfla 06-21-2012 08:49 PM

That's why you need a TV in the bedroom! In fact, we used to have 2 in our bedroom (liked different channels) and they never stopped us from lovemaking. No that we are wayyyy older, only 1 set is needed; he goes to bed early and I go several hours later (most of the time, ha ha). It is so much easier to sleep with the TV on.

there are better things to do in the bedroom than watch tv. No tv, no laptops, one phone-ugh!!-books are allowed-sometimes!:o

rusty quilter 06-22-2012 04:00 PM

I swore years ago I would never have one in my bedroom--thus far have been successful. I don't want or need the additional background noise--and do want a "sanctuary". I do have a stereo system in there though that I listen to when I am in the mood to block the world out.

Jim's Gem 06-22-2012 07:36 PM

No TV in our room. No TV reception at all in this house. Havn't watched TV in my home in 18 1/2 years.

JBeamer 06-27-2012 09:19 PM

We have the TV in our bedroom and have had for years. Is that what happened to our love life? And here I thought it was old age. But don't think I'll be moving the TV out though.

JanTx 06-27-2012 09:37 PM

We have a TV in our bedroom, but it's only on in the morning when I'm getting dressed. Like to hear the news/weather, etc in the mornings. Didn't have this when the kids were growing up though. Strict rule of no TV in bedrooms. I teach school and was appalled about the shows elementary kids were watching in the middle of the night. When my daughter was going off to college she asked if she could finally get a TV for her bedroom. I told her she'd always said that EVERYONE had a TV except her so I was positive her roommate would have one. Don't remember now whether she did or not... Daughter says she had to get married to get a TV in her bedroom. They've been married 10 years and have one child... hmmm... maybe there's a point to that!

Why is it I can sleep with the TV on but not the radio?
