Vacuum Packing
 

Does anyone know of a store that would vacuum pack a blanket for mailing for you? With postage being so high I thought this would be a good idea. I have five blankets to send.

i don't know of a service. but i heard that the dollar stores sell the bags to vacuum pack yourself.

I was going to suggest the same thing - why not purchase one of those Space Bags and vacuum it yourself?

The cost of shipping does vary with the size of the box.... but the weight is one of the biggest costs in shipping. So you may not be saving all that much in reducing the size a bit , since the weight will remain the same.
Hot sure what carrier you are thinking of using , but do check out the rates on line for the same weight but different size boxes.

My sister vacuum packed a few blankets,pillows, etc. It seemed they just about never got fluffy again. It was like it sucked all the air out and it never came back. They stayed flat as a pancake for a long time.

I wonder if washing them would have helped, or just fluffing them in the dryer?

I bought a pack of those "space" bags and put a fluffy blanket in two of them and put them in a closet. One of them has already leaked and gotten air in it and the other one is still "smooshed". So, don't know how long they would last in shipment. HTH

I put my sleeping bags in garbage bags, pull up tight with one hand, insert your vacuum cleaner hose in to opening and hold tight. Then suck the air out, when deflated pull hose out and tie off the bag.<o:p></o:p>
