Verizon Users

Ok everyone not that I really need one but am wanting to get an upgrade on my phone. After about almost a week, nights sitting at the computor reading reviews and looking at prices and such I had about 4 or 5 narrowed down. They had 4 or 5 star reviews. After going to the store today and spending 2 hrs. looking and playing with the phones the guy talked me down to 2 of them. The htc rhyme and the iphone. I would love to have the iphone 4s because of one of the features that you can talk your text. That is really cool. I have the samsung reality now. I don't do awhole lot yet on the net with this one. Have never downloaded any kind of apps. Not that I really new what all that was about until today anyway. Also I don't remember which iphone I was looking at when I found out that it had a motorcycle ringtone. I liked that because my husband has a bike. I really like the 4s phone but don't really need all that gb. So the price for the iphone is pretty good. It has extra insurance that I know I would want to get from applecare or protect care. But as it is am going to upgrading the data. Right now just not sure if I have the money for the extra insurance.
So those of you who have these phones what do you like about it or what should I know that I may not know about yet. Hopefully I will be able to make my decision after I read your replys.
Thanks for reading. Sorry so long.

Gosh, deciding on a cell phone is about as bad as reading an insurance policy!! I don't have an iPhone but most of my family members do and they love them! That's about all the info I can give you!

Thank you.

My son has the 4s and I fell heir to his Droid x, which I love. I have "walk in service" which is not available on the iPhone. My X had a problem, they overnighted a new one and it cost me nothing. According to my son, my GPS works better than his, I have voice texting and much more. My data plan is $20.00 per month, that is less than iPhone. If you are not going to spend a lot of time on the net or watching movies on your phone, why iphone

We have 3 Droid Incredilbles from Verizon and we love them. All 3 of us are up for new phones in the next few months and we will each probably go with the Iphone. When I went with my smartphone 1 1/2 years ago, my DH poo-poohed my choice (even though he had one through his work). You know, I wasn't really sure I 'needed' one but I absolutely love it! There are so many things I can do with it. For example, while shopping today, my DD texted and wanted me to Google the apt complex in Ohio where she and her hubby had just put a dep. on an apt (they are moving due to his job relocation). I was able...right there in the mall, to sit down on a bench and see the apts and tell her what I thought of them. Seriously, I say GO FOR IT!!!

Man am I behind the times or what! All I want my phone for is to call friends and family and emergency if needed. I don't want to be tied to a phone and look like so many walking blindly while talking or surfing the net. That's what this computer is for. I have better things to do, like quilting!

I have the Iphone 4 and I love it. It is extremely user friendly. While I don't use the internet on it alot, having access saved me 50% at Hobby Lobby because I was able to go their site and pull the coupon up on my phone. I believe you can do the same at JoAnne's and other stores as well. I have downloaded a free quilting calculator app from Robert Kaufman fabrics which has been very handy for me.

I have a Pantech 9020 that is cool, but I don't use it for anything except phoning and Facebook. I don't care about GPS (I live in a small town, from a big city), playing music (I have a CD player, stereo, radio for that), or for taking a lot of pics. The last pics I took on the phone, other than seeing the dog do something cute, was the accident I was in. If you want a lot on a phone, go for the Droid or IPhone. Like somebody else said, all the apps would take me from doing what I love and that is sitting in front of a sewing machine!

My DH just got the Iphone4s and so for he likes it but still learning how to use the phone. I really want one too but I'll have to wait till Mothers Day.

I have a Droid razer and love it! I use it to order prescriptions and make Dr appts and read when I'm stuck waiting for whatever reason. I love that I have my calendar with me and can keep track of apts.
I use the GPS when I need to go someplace I've never been before. It is comparable to the iPhone.

Funny to see this thread this morning. I had a Droid smartphone and loved it, but my DH took me to Best Buy last night to get an iPhone 4S. It's really cool! I love the voice app and Siri. Recently I have been going to the Apple store, taking classes on how to use the new Mac computer that my husband wanted (I've always been a PC person). The people are great at that store. But we went to Best Buy to buy the phone because they have a warrantee program that Apple doesn't. The warrantee that my DH bought will allow completely free replacement as many times as necessary, within a 2 year period. They also give you a rebate on your old phone if you buy a new phone within 2 years. Check out your options.

You sound just like me, I have never come close to using my 350 minutes.

The HTC Thunderbolt has talk to text.
But will not link up to an Apple computer

Verizon has the same plan.

Just for a shocker I have to tell youall that I really don't think I need all the apps. Last month my phone bill showed that I had only used 22 mins. of my 250 allowance. I use the house line to talk to my DD every Thursday then to my sisters about once a month.

Is this strange?

solstice3 03-11-2012 11:29 AM

The choice should be made after examining what it does and weighing that against what you need. I mostly agree with JBJ137. I need my phone for talking more that anything. An occasional text or photo is OK Too often we get baited with all kinds of cool gadgets that we pay too much for and never use.

I have an HTC smartphone via Verizon and am pleased with it ... especially with the built-in GPS at no extra charge ... I think Apple charges for a GPS app on the iPhone. I think photos taken on the iPhone are better quality ... but it could just be I don't know what I'm doing .

I keep a cellphone until it bites the dust, then buy the cheapest one with the fewest bells and whistles. Guess I am just an old dinosaur....LOL

collady 03-11-2012 05:01 PM

I am looking for a new phone also. I don't do a lot on the internet with my current phone, and I really don't want to spend the time to learn how or the money they cost. I just send text messages and take and send a few pictures other than talk. I can't seem to find "plain Jane" simple phones!

DO-IT-ALL 03-12-2012 06:33 AM

Hmmm.......I have a Verison Octane. This is a phone that also takes pictures. We have had Verison for many years and are very satisfied with this phone we just got.....and it was free. I bought a wonderful case for it on Amazon.com. I don't need all the other stuff that has come out. Sounds like you are looking for more than a phone. Good luck !!!

I just got a android bionic & am still learning how to use it - but love it so far. My son got an iphone 4 (not the 4s) & absolutely loves his - of course being a teenager, he is much better with his that I am! lol!

My husband says the same thing. He only uses the phone. He likes his flip phone and doesnt like that he pays 10 dollars for data when he doesn't use it.

raedar63 03-15-2012 05:01 AM

Just so you know you can download loud ringtones such as motorcycle apps on any phone. This is very scary speaking as a biker . I hope people don't start answering phones while on the bike. I have tride to talk briefly when I used to ride on the back and our bikes are so loud I couldn't hear anyway lol. I never had a smartphone till a few months ago. I went to get the iphone and they talked me right out of it. I went with a verizon phone because I could get twice the data for the same price . 4GB for the price of 2GB on the iphone so if data cost is an issue you may ask about this.

I have a I-phone4s and while I don't use all of the features, I like it a lot. I am a member of the Apple Corps in that I have an Ipad2, a Macbook Air laptop, an older e-mac laptop and an iPod classic. The one thing I will say about Apple is whatever you get I would suggest you purchase the extended warranty for whatever item from Apple you buy. The reason is that after the factory warranty runs out it will cost you money to talk to tech support about anything. Lets face it, most extended warranties are almost worthless, but in this case, they have saved my bacon, with long conversations with tech support to correct some stupid thing that I caused to happen. Another time they replaced a complete computer screen, on an old E-Mac desktop, that went south and didn't charge me for it. $900 worth of replacement cost saved was a good tradeoff for the price of the extra warranty. I have gotten back the value of the cost of the warranty in tech support costs on every warranty I have from Apple. I think the current cost is $50 to start and goes up as long as you stay on the line. You can see how that would add up. Every mechanical thing or electronic thing can fail. Even the best of them. But it is nice to have somebody to talk to and get it fixed for free. It is also a nice feeling that you can call and get help resolving one of the inevitable bozo moves that you make while trying to do something on the device that is not supposed to screw things up but does.

I'm with you Graymare. When I have had to get a new phone I go into Verizon and tell them that I need a phone that makes phone calls. It doesn't have to make coffee or solve for world peace, it just has to make phone calls.

My problem now is that my business is growing so fast that it would be good to be able to access my Google calendar on my phone. My Google calendar synchs up with my Outlook calendar so I can make sure that I have access to my appointments anywhere. I just don't want to have to buy an expensive phone that does much more than I need in order to get the two things that I do need.

I also drive my cars into the ground.
