I have been troubled with viruses from other quilters and websites they recommended. Has anyone else had this problem? I do have Norton which gives me some protection. I am not blaming anyone for this problem. I am now concerned about my hard drive. Is there anything we can do to make sure we do not transmit these viruses to one another?

BIG problem--try AVG plus superAntiSpyware--both free and work fine together for me--computer tech advised this combo when I got hit badly with virus plus got highjacked!

Oh my! I really hate when this happens because I'm not smart enough to fix it or avoid it! :(

Sadly no- the site here is very well protected but the links that take you away from here - there is no way to tell if they are good or viruses. And recently I was trying to get to an applique site from Google as soon as I clicked on it my Norton went nuts so nothing is safe anymore

Try Avast home version of antivirus. It's free. Been using it for at least 5 years and no problems to date.
I gave up Norton when their download of new software and license (which I paid for) stopped my pc dead in its tracks. |
I quit Norton after I got hit with Trojans AND viruses.
Check out PC World for good reviews on software-----they test using a lot of new computers. |
My question is -- is it REALLY a virus or a pop up thing that says you have a virus???? There IS a scam/spam/popup that comes on and says you have a virus. Then they try to SELL you something to cure it. You do NOT have a virus!!! Keep your virus protection updated and make sure, if you have it set to automatically run, that you have the machine ON during that time! My mother kept getting that message and taking her machine in for repairs. The repairman failed (?) to tell her that she didn't have a virus, that it was a scam. I can't tell you the $$ she spent. My GF was turning her machine off but telling the Norton's to run the virus protection updates at 3:00 in the morning. Well, with the machine off it can't get the updates. Turns out, when I went into her program, she hadn't had an update in over a year!!!!!

I believe this site is well protected. That said, stay away from links that lead you to other sites.I found out this the hard way.ask me how I know! pab

one reason i don't click on many links or open jokes relatives and friends send me.
|
I haven't had any problems from this site but if you click on a link that may be where you are getting them.

There is also one that says it is antivirus, and yo are not protected---but it will highjack your computer!

I dumped the PC years ago and went to MAC. Initially more expensive than a PC, but in the long run, less expensive in my opinion as you dont worry about virus, spyware, etc as it has built in to its operating system to avoid that stuff. Also, it doesn't cost extra and no "subscriptions" to maintain for Norton or whoever. We ended up going MAC after years of battling virus attacks since our kids are avid internet fans and we had more C's crash and burn than I can count. Since we went MAC, our oldest MAC is 5 years old - never a stitch of trouble. Most things that go quirky on you are easy and to fix or it has a help button that walks you through the steps. I'll never go back to PC.

AVG is a very good FREE download.
I also have a FREE download of Malwarebyt/Anti-Malware I also run a Free downloaded cleaner daily. These were recommended by someone on the board. POINT OF INTEREST... A lot of people are not aware of this... I was told by computer fix-it Co. Anytime you are googling or what ever it is you are doing and you get HIT by any type of attack... IMMEDIATELY...shut PC off...MANUALLY DO NOT TRY to back out of where you are... SHUT YOUR SYSTEM DOWN...right away. This really helps as I have had to do it when on Google. |
Sadly, there are getting to be more quilting sites on the internet that are really links to virus's.
My anti virus program puts a green check mark next to "safe sites" when I do internet searches. If there isn't a check mark, I won't click on it  You can also keep a tab open with this Norton site, copy and paste a link into there, and it will tell you if it is a known "bad" site :D:D:D https://safeweb.norton.com/]https://safeweb.norton.com/[/url] |
I got hijacked a few years ago, It was a pain. Had to go into the hidden files and the registry to remove it. We use Norton on 3 computers and Microsoft Security Essentials on the others. I personally like both these programs. Also use Super Anti Spyware and spybot S&D. Despite all this I still got hijacked. I use the internet heavily since I use my computer for work when at home and I do a lot of research. Other than that 1 time I have had no other problems for years. The MAC is a good idea though, just a whole new learning curve.

Try Kaspersky Internet Security. Better than Norton. It's not really expensive -- around $40 to protect 5 computers for a year.

Thank you for the website to check whether an address is safe. I know better than to buy anything that appears on the screen.
