I just received notice from our computer specialist warning us about a new e-mail virus/scam that pretends to be from UPS. It's not REALLY from UPS, the scammer is just trying to fool you into thinking that the e-mail is from a reputable company (which of course UPS is).

Just a heads-up, FYI, in case it keeps anyone out of trouble!

Please be aware that there are several UPS scams out there and I’ve been seeing them frequently.

Please make anyone who might receive messages of this nature aware.

A mass spamming campaign appearing to be from United Parcel Service. The emails arrive with the subject line "UPS notification". The emails originates from either info or support followed by a number which may vary with each email.

The spammed-out emails attempt to impersonate UPS, the world's largest package delivery company and provider of specialized transportation and logistics services.

The message notifies the recipient of a parcel that will arrive within 3 business days, the tracking number and more information are in the attached document.

The email comes with an attachment called UPS_Document.zip and the file UPS_Document.exe found inside the Zip archive poses as a PDF document.

You *do* know that it would be really inadvisable to click on an attachment that ends in .exe, right? That's an executable file, meaning it will run a program. Bad program. Bad, bad...

Thank God my AOL seems to catch all of these; I've never gotten one (or an email for one) in over 10 years on AOL.

We too have been receiving them for months. I just delete them like I do so many other things when I don't know the sender.
