i don't remember who posted this video, but i wanted my husband to see it.
so of course i deleted it and then emptied the 'trash'. the only housework i did all day.

if someone would be kind enough to link me back to it, i would greatly appreciate it.

thank you.

i found it. it didn't come from here after all.

TELL ME........................WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS?

We Didn't Start The Fire This is definitely worth watching.

What 1980's song do history teachers praise for its educational value? "We Didn't Start The Fire" This song was the answer to that question on Final Jeopardy -- only one person got it right.

I never could understand all the references on Billy Joel's song -- fortunately, with this VIDEO, given the pictures, now I can "see" what my "ears" couldn't.

Apparently, it's Joel's homage to the 40-years of historical headlines since his birth (1949). Wish I could have appreciated the depths of this song when it was released. Twenty years later, I'm in awe of what Joel was able to put into music and lyrics lasting only a few minutes.
Whether you are a Billy Joel fan or not, you probably remember his great song, 'We Didn't Start the Fire'. Here it is, set to pictures... Very, very cool. Had to share this one. It's a neat flashback through the past half century. I never did know the words. Turn up the volume, sit back and enjoy a review of 50 years of history in less than 4 minutes!

Thanks to Billy Joel and some guy from the University of Chicago with a lot of spare time and Google.

Top left gives you full screen....top right lets you pause. Bottom left shows the year. The older you are, the more pictures you will recognize. If you click on the picture, it pauses and blows up.

if you ever visit the rock and roll hall of fame they have encased in glass the actual notepad that he wrote the song on....now that was really neat to see

Thanks for this, BFW. It's great, and I saved it to show to my DH, too. Billy Joel is one of the musical geniuses of our time.

I used to use this song as a research project for my Grade 8's way back when. Each student had to research the person/event and make an oral presentation. This was practice for a larger research term paper which I assigned after this project was completed. Ahhhh, don't I just love retirement!

Midwestmary 02-01-2011 04:12 AM

Well worth watching - thanks!

CarrieAnne 02-01-2011 04:37 AM

Awesome song... when he plays it live, he has a video screen (and when he tours with Elton John, he replaces Queen Elizabeth with a photo of Elton...too funny!!!)

redkimba 02-01-2011 07:18 PM

Thank you. This is one of my favorite Billy Joel songs. I didn't understand some of the lyrics in the first half of the song, but then again I wasn't around until the last 1 min of the song...

sandpat 02-02-2011 06:46 AM

My DIL is a jr. high teacher and that's the first thing I thought of, it would be perfect for her history class!
