dress in layers, as it will be cool and we can also have snow!

Here in California, not too far from Los Angeles. It can be 75 - 80 during the day or it could be in the 60's. We have had 90's before but that is unusual. Nights will be in the 60's down to 50's. Rain is possible. So are fire storms. Don't need heavy coats or sweaters for here but you will other places.

Went to a wedding in SF last year in late October and it was gorgeous!!!!! Depending on where in SF, there can be winds coming off the bay or the ocean. I would say maybe 60's to 70's.

Given the variety of places she is planning to visit, I would say plan for every kind of weather from quite warm to possible freezing temps. As mentioned earlier, layers are a really good plan as it can be cool at night and still get hot in the daytime in So. California. And when we visited Niagara Falls in November there had been 2 feet of snow the night before.

Amen to this. Layers are the perfect advice. In Iowa we say, "If you don't like the weather now, wait an hour and it will change" (smile). I hope she enjoys her trip.

Where in New York is she going? The weather varies pretty widely throughout the state.

Can never fail with layers!

Vegas is light jacket for night time. Long sleeves for day. Usually very mild.

NY weather can have a wide range depending on where in the state she is going. In and around Manhattan it's usually cold, but we don't necessarily have snow. Of course, anything can happen so I agree with the others that layers is the way to go.

It would depend also on what climate she is used to. Once, when stationed in Mo, some neighbors and I were BBQ'ing outside in our coats, while watching the new guys run around in their bathing suits through the water. Turns out they just moved there from Alaska!
