Do you weave rag rugs, braided rugs?

i do braided rugs, locker hooked rugs, wool hooked rugs (my favorite), wrapped clothesline rugs, knitted/felted wool rugs... can you guess...I LOVE MAKING RUGS!!! i don't know why...i love going to stores and looking at rugs too...i have hand made rugs all over the house, in front of the kitchen sink, in front of the doors, here for the cat, there just because :)...have not woven a rug though...hmmmmmmmmmthat may have to be next...

I have 2 old floor looms and have made 2 rugs, I need my friend to come over to my house to get my other big loom up and running for me

I have two looms that my hubby made for me but haven't tried to weave a rug yet. I need to, need all new rugs.

Tried to crochet a rug last week but feel it is too bulky and to many threads on edge.

Would like to try the clothesline rug though.

I love to hook wool rugs, don't weave.

I have made countless rag rugs on a floor loom. Great use for those old poly double knits. They keep their color very well. The best thing is it only takes about an hour to weave a foot or more.

Also, I have done several braided wool rugs. They are beautiful and classic.

I am just starting so can you tell me size to cut the strips for the loom? And what do you use for the cross rows(not right term)? I gave about 100 yards of the old polyester fabric away thought I had no use for it.:( sure hope they used it to make quilts for rescued dogs so it wasn't wasted.

I cut my poly strips about 1"-1.5". Be sure to angle cut the ends, so the overlapping isn't too bulky. The rotary cutter is perfect for this, but if you like to sit in front of the tv with something mindless to do, this is a good thing for that. You can take apart clothing to use, just more time consuming and you won't get as much out of an article of clothing as you will a cut of fabric, for obvious reasons. I try to have at least 12 colors for a rug, to give it some flow.

Here are a couple of pics of rag rugs I have made. Included in these are not only poly double knits, but qianna knits , velour and some raw wool. All good for texture changes. Also, don't be afraid to use prints! I cut up a bunch of my grandmother's old dresses, loud prints and such, and they work in beautifully.
