I was reading some topics here on the board and found I could not respond to the topic. (I am new here on the board and bytw. just love it.) I saw that under the topic heading it said 'locked' and I assume someone did it but I wonder why. Also is there a place that tells me all the rules etc of the board. When I read the classifieds, I occasionally see someone addressing the moderators about some issue. I have some things I would like to sell also and need to know the rules in advance. I actually feel more comfortable and 'safer' with knowing rules in advance.

If you go up and click on the home page there are rules under each of the main topics.

I have wondered what the locked means as well. Under classified there is a rules posting. I know you have to have regular status which looks like you do and you can only sell 15 items each 7 days. I messed up first time I sold some items so probably a good idea to read. I think you're supposed to list them all as one posting not 10 or 15 different posting. The moderators were very nice in helping me so if you're not sure pop them a pm.

Thank you Donna, I will do that.

Locked is when the moderators "lock" the post, so no additional comments can be made. I think you can request your own topic to be "locked" or deleted since you cant do it yourself. Sometimes if something gets a little heated on a post it will be locked...

Thank you for that explanation. I tried looking for it under the rules, but could not find it. Thanks again.

I know I have read one where the topic creator just didnt want anymore comments on the topic? Could be that is the case with some of those..

Many many times the topic is locked at the request of the creator.

I just want you to know that I am not criticizing anyone, just curious as to why a topic was locked and what it meant. Now I know. Thanks everyone.

the question comes up from time to time.

the reasons vary from topic to topic.

as one example, there are a lot of locked topics right now because so many people are posting here about missing pictures instead of consulting and following the contact information and instructions clearly posted at the top of Main.

somebody finally provided the information the techs needed to start investigating. now, there are some instructions members can try. they're posted at the top of Main.

i added a link to all of the topics i encountered and then locked them.

had members been able to add comments, that information would have gotten lost and forgotten because so many people don't take the time to read through a topic before they add their two cents. those topics are locked to prevent them being taken off-track.
