when shopping one of my pet peeves is to be called pet names by a stranger behind the checkout counter. I am always saying you don't know me well enough to call me pet names. I am not your Dear your Sweetheart or your Honey.

So when talking to my DH I usually say Dear or occasionally honey ---No now keep it clean!!! LOL

When I hung up talking to my youngest son just now I realized I call him dear at times. He was saying he doesn't know where his 7 yr old twins are at the moment! LOL They are the ones that just had the baby,. And I replied Well Dear be happy you have family to take care of them for you!

So I was thinking he is the only one I call Dear. don't know why. I don't call his brother dear I don't think. I know I don't use pet names with Sara. Mayby Dear once in a while but not very often.

When I was little my mom called me ladybug and I used that with Sara. My grandpa always called me punky as he had nicknames for everyone!

So what do you call your loved ones? Pet names or nicknames?

I had an aunt who used to call me sweetie and I absolutely hated her calling me that!!

My youngest is named after his dad and he is called Little Glen by me and some family members or GW his initials. I still occasionally shorten it to GDub.

I call most little kids munchkin.

I used to call my husband, "Bubble," short for bubble-butt. Don't know why. Haven't called him that in forEver. But his brother will ask me, "so what's your Bubble up to?" hahaha... My own nickname growing up started off as Coalie-Nini. Eventually my immediate family shortened it to Nini, or Neen; my uncles & aunts shortened it to Coalie. My friends at school called me, "Reb." My father was born Chuck, but everyone called him Henry or HenBoy. My father & his brothers called my mother, "yay-yay." My younger sister, Catherine, was called, "Geendi," while my youngest sis was, "bug." My own children & grandchildren do not have nicknames. I affectionately call my son, "boyo," and my daughter, "GinaBelle," but don't consider those nicknames, just 'love you's.'

LOL Too funny as that is what my kids call me :shock: Just the other night when the Wizard of Oz was on the younger one called and say now where were you again ???? How rude ! LOL

I call my middle daughter by her middle name she will only respond to me when I say it. My youngest is bug, raggie, My oldest doesn't have a nick name. My husband is just honey.

Granddaughter Kaelyn is called Smooch by her daddy and grandpa, I always called her my Special angel. Her brother is Snuggle Bug by me, but I guess that will have to stop as he is now 18! Granddaughter Sydney is called Sunshine, Sugar, Sweetie, Sugar Pie and her little brother is called Rocko by Grabndpa. I call him my Buddy, or little stinker! I am Clem to hubby, and he is Fig to everyone but me. I find I use the term Hon a lot when talking to my children or nieces. The nieces and nephews call my daughter Linda, Didi. And hubby calls most of the guys Bud.

I call my DH "an opinionated old goat" but I do it with love!

Working in the service industry as a teen, we loved to call people by terms of endearment. It was fun to see who liked it and who hated it. Men thought it was a green light for sex and some women went ballistic. Good times.

Working at a restaurant, endearments were considered flair. You'll get better tips if you call everyone honey, etc. I personally hate it. Unless the waitress is in her 70's and has a beehive. Then I adore it.

Pookie is the generic term in my family. Also ancient gods but those are assigned to individuals. Once you get a god, it's yours for life.

I call my hubby 'Hunny' as he reminds me of pooh bear, you know round around the middle and talks alot lol.

I call my son Mr Magoo.....not sure why, just do. My dogs names is Zeus, but I call him knuckle head....because he has got a big solid head, a term of love really!!

I call one of my cats (Smudge) fat cat, becasue she is, and hte other cat (Harley) I call Little Boys....dotn ask me why the plural, I have no idea! He is only a small slight cat.

When I want to get my mums attection I yell out MA!!! She hates it, so responds lol. Most kids I meet that know me call me Fruitbat...as that was my scout leader name and it has kind of stuck.

I see pet names used by cashiers as offensive and disrespectful. I want to be treated like the adult I am and not like a pet or child.
